My wife wants to carry her M&P45. I (She) is looking for suggestions for concealed carry holsters. IWB preferred. Thanks

The ladies have special needs and considerations that us guys don't have to worry about. Holsters that are perfectly comfortable for most men can be terribly uncomfortable for many women.

The female physique typically includes wider hips and narrower waist than a male's shape. High-ride holsters and those having even modest butt-forward cant can drive the grip-frame of the pistol into the lady's ribcage most uncomfortably.

The majority of my female customers prefer holster having a somewhat lower ride (in relation to the belt-line) and either a neutral cant, or only a slight butt-forward cant.

IWB holsters can be very uncomfortable with the larger handguns, especially for the ladies.

Hope this helps you.

which models do you recommend? Any trial period?

I have a Don Hume that fits both my XD45 and my M&P45C. The clip is strong enough to secure the gun to even work-weight beltless slacks. I wear this daily without a problem, except I did sit in the car with it with jeans on for 3 hours yesterday and started to feel a little "tight" around the waist.

Suggestions:

1. For strong-side carry, many ladies find a mid-ride pancake-style with neutral cant works well. This requires a belt, which some ladies find objectionable.

2. For IWB-carry, many ladies find that a neutral cant holster worn IWB at the appendix position works well. (note that this can be uncomfortable when seated for long periods of time, driving long distances, etc).

Either can be concealed with a loose blouse or sweater.

Evaluation of the lady's usual activities and wardrobe will help guide the decision.

My slacks are all either a size larger or have stretchy fabric.

Driving long distances (as driver, not passenger where the seat belt clicks on the wrong side), a cross-draw works great.

Thanks for your reply. What model holster do you use?

A crossdraw or appendix carry holster will work best for women, at least that's been my experience. Appendix carry normally requires the carrying of a shorter-barreled gun, 3" or less.

Last week I received the Tucker Silent Thunder (IWB) for my M&P 9c. I have to say I'm really pleased with this holster. It's kydex on the outside and leather lined on the inside and still really thin and close fitting. That said, IWB does take some getting used to and is not for everyone. Another option is a holster made by Fist called Lady Fist which are OWB and sit a bit lower on the belt, they are not quite as concealable, in my opinion, but they are more comfortable.

Oh and I'm female ;)

Nice find! I've been looking for something like this for my Walther PPS and they make one for that gun!

Hi Barb,

I'm loving this holster and thought I'd share a few pics. After a few days of appendix carry I decided that I prefer wearing this setup around 4 o'clock, instead.

When you wear it at 4 o'clock, do you have to reverse the direction of the grip? Does it slow down the draw? Maybe it's my stiff shoulder or short waist but I can't seem to draw comfortably like that.

Currently, I have it with a forward cant and it seems to work well for me, but again, it one of those personal things. What works well for one, may not work well for another.
