Holster ID help

OK, I was watching an old film noir the other night, and I saw a holster I'd like to try. The cop was carrying a J frame in a cross draw holster. It was an open top, but the whole front side was open also. To draw, he just pulled the gun is a sort of pivot motion against the muzzle. To re-holster, it gun goes straight into the holster. Thanks to the engineers who made DVR's so I could re-run this draw several times to see how the holster works.
Now the question is, does anyone know what kind of holster this might have been, and are they still available? Thanks for any help available.

i serached a couple hours. cant find anything. odds are it was a custom made rig just for the movie

Did the holster in question look similar to this one?

If it did, then it was manufactured by Brauer Bros. You can find them on occasion on eBay. Also, check in the Classifieds on this forum. Here's a link to a member (robbt) who may have one:

A few other makers back-in-the-day made similar holsters, Bucheimer and Clark come to mind. They all used basically the same retention device, a spring-steel "V" in which the retention was adjusted via a Chicago screw. The cross-draw design was popular back then for revolvers, due to the cylinders width also aiding in retention.

I don't think that Brauer Bros or the other manufacturers are still in business these days, though. The design of these specific holsters is now "vintage."

Thanks JWS3! If that's not the one, it's a very close relative. I couldn't see an adjustment screw, but the rest is right. On with the research!

You're welcome, Manks. Some of the makers made models of that holster without the Chicago screw as well. If memory serves they also made models with a retaining strap that went between the trigger guard and grip frame.
