Holster pics

Another forum member asked that I post some pics of other holsters I've made. I do this as a hobby for friends and family, so it's not a side job or my primary source of income.

I've just enjoyed working with leather for the past 15 years and really got started in this when the internet and forums like this came to age. I met a man thru a forum who did this professionally. He mentored me and shared a lot about design and execution and the overall process. He was a great man who was as unselfish in sharing his knowledge as any man I've ever met. I am grateful to him for sharing his craft even though I was and still am just a hobbyist he treated me respectfully and was very generous.

I started playing with leather as a hobby too. For a couple years I sold a few but it became more work, less fun. Now I'm back to just making them for friends and family.

Old&slow - good looking rigs. Your comment about it becoming work is why I have kept it to just friends and family as well. Plus I think I still have room for improvement. My mentor would say that my edges still need work because you should not be able to see the "seam". The edges are nice and slick and hard but I have not mastered the hard waxed edge like he did but then again that's why he was a professional.

Again Very Nice work,, I really like your holster designs. I've been going to draw up a 'Askin' type designs for a couple of my revolvers.

Edges are tough and time consuming. I've tried deer antlers ,, wood ,, canvas ,, plactic slicking wheels,, etc. What I've been using lately is a piece of scrap 4 oz. leather (smooth side) and water with a little pro-carve in it. Recently I've made some small wood wheels with bolts thru them and various size half circle grooves cut in them. I chuck up on my drill press at a med. speed. Initially the results look promising.
Some don't like Edge Coat. But I like the contrast of black edge coat on a brown holster.

I dye after I sew and mold and have never tried using white thread. The white thread you used Looks Good..

The Askins Avenger style for any gun is so hard to beat -- nice to see you have something like that for revolvers. I personally love the vintage Safariland 25/29 and Bianchi 10L/5BHL high rides, (5BHL pre-Mexico) but the belt loop design on those doesn't tuck the gun in enough. The Askins does that.
