Holster Question?

Dear s&w forum, I have a holster question. will the pacific canvas and leather victory pilot shoulder holster fit a s&w model 60 .357 magnum revolver with a 3 inch barrel? I wrote to pacific canvas and leather company and they wrote back that since it is a small frame revolver it should fit with no problem. But before i spend the money on the holster i would like a second opinion from my fellow forum members sincerely and respectfully mg357 a proud member of the s&w forum.

The pilot's shoulder holster is made for a 4" S&W K frame. The model 60 is a smaller J frame. If anything, your revolver should fit a bit loosely in the holster although the strap should hold it securely.

I don't have a 3" J frame, but this is comparison shots of a 4" Victory K frame and a 4" Kit Gun J frame, in the holster you are asking about.

Notice how much deeper the kit gun sits.

I wouldn't use it for one.

Sorry to hijack your thread MG357...

Alpo is that a Pacific brand holster? If so, what is your opinion of the quality?

Yes it is. The holster is of excellent quality. This particular one has something hosed with the "lift the dot". It won't. To unsnap it you must lift from the rear. Like it was put in backwards, although the markings on it show it to be put in correctly.

You notice, up at the top, a piece of khaki canvas? That's an elastic ammo strip that holds 12 rounds of 38. I believe it was an option, but I thought it was kinda cool, so got it.

I also have an M7 holster, of theirs, for a 1911. Works fine, just like it should. So I'm presuming that this one holster was made with a defective snap.

Truthfully, I'm not real thrilled with the way this one rides, although I think it's mainly because of how I dress.

This is a simple "cross-body" strap system. Gun hangs under the left arm, and the strap goes diagonally up the back, over the right shoulder, and diagonally down to the top of the holster. I generally wear a T-shirt, and the strap on the right shoulder rubs my neck. Sliding that little ammo strip up to serve as a cushion helps, but not a lot.

If I wore a shirt with a collar, or wore it outside my jacket, like it was designed for, I probably would not have the neck-rubbing problem.

The M7 hangs under the arm, and the strap goes across the back, around the ribs, across the front and snaps into a D-ring on the holster. No neck-rubbing. Better design.
