There are many good quality holster companies out there. Find one you like and don't go cheap. Dosen't make sense to put $500.00 or more in a handgun and buy a cheap 20.00 holster. And don't plan on not replacing it. a gun will out live a holsters service life so plan on getting one every couple years.

I've used CrossBreed's horsehide IWB SuperTuck Deluxe and love it. A good belt goes a long ways too... I bought Cabelas Garrison II (1.75").

Superbly designed and crafted, hand made holsters at a good price. I would put Ryan's holsters up against any one's. Some wait time but well worth it. I have the proverbial bag of 100 big name holsters that did not work. All of my pistols now ride in Grizzle Leather. Bill

I've been using a cheap belt slide by Don Hume ($20) while waiting for my holster from Personal Security Systems (Personal Security Systems Kydex Holsters).
It was almost a 3 month wait but I must say it was worth it. I carry my 45c daily and this holster holds it tight into my body. It's an OWB but you can order straps to turn it into an IWB. I can't imagine the holster ever wearing out but it has a lifetime warranty. They also give you 30 days to try it out and if you don't like it they will refund everything you paid including shipping both ways.

I've been carrying my M&P 9c in a Crossbreed Supertuck (horsehide) for about a year now. It's the most comfortable and concealable holster I've used.

If money is not a concern you can never go wrong with Milt Sparks or Kramer. You need to decide on a number of things first before beginning a search...ie. what mode of carry IWB or OWB?, with or without retention strap, what material do you prefer natural (leather) or synthetic? Will it be carried for short term, medium term or long term ( 12 hrs /day or more)
Once those things get answered you can then narrow your search. All manufacturers offer holsters for M&P in the various configuration.
One of our fellow forum members does a fabulous job without a big time price or long time wait...check out lobogunleather.com Ray is outstanding. I have holsters from most major makers and it is hard to find one that is truly a poorly made or thought out design.
Like the old adage in sales goes..."if you don't know where you are going ANY road you take will get you there!"

Though not the poster of the question I have been following with great interest as I'm in the market for an IWB holster for my 40c.
How about some tips or suggestions on what to look for, or discussions about what features have and have not worked for someone with no experience or knowledge on what to look for. I understand comfort is a personal thing, but how about things like horsehide vs cowhide, combat cut vs standard, angle of the holster, hook style, etc.

Good questions ! I always carry a service size pistol and carry all the time. In the summer it is mostly IWB. Yes, I have the proverbial bag of 100 holsters that looked good but did not work. A real, double thickness gun belt makes all the difference in the world as to how a holster will work or fail. I have a Kramer horse hide belt of this type going on 18 years of heavy use and still going strong along with several holsters. In leather for IWB I prefer horse hide. It is proven to me to be more durable and sweat resistant than cow. What works best for me is an IWB holster with the "15 degree FBI" cant as it conceals well and I like the angle when assuming a grip. Facilitating a proper grip on the weapon is my #1 criteria. In a critical stress incident the inability to obtain a proper, secure, fast grip can result in fumbling and even dropping the pistol. So I prefer the holster to be designed to enable a full, unobstructed proper grip at the start of the draw and to ride at least high enough above the top of the belt to also make this easily possible. Mounting options are your choice as long as they are secure. As to comfort wear time makes this a non issue and you just get used to it. Leather is more comfortable. That being said I carry Glocks a lot in the Comp-tac "Infidel" holster a lot and don't even notice it. The Infidel is a no frills, all kydex holster that I find very comfortable and works very well. Cost effective and 2 day build time. Use what works best for you. Bill

Thanks for the response Sarge. I've been pouring over the various websites listed as well as others I have found and there are so many different variants that it is a bit overwhelming!
Considering just the IWB holsters the physical size ranges from very small to pretty freakin' big! *lol*. The Crossbreed Super Tuck that seems to have a big following here for instance is one of those that I would call on the large size, my guess is to spread out the weight for better distribution. Others I've seen are just big enough to hold the gun.
Like anything else, I guess the best thing to do is to keep trying to find some in stock at retailers in order to try them out. The thing I've noticed is that none of the gun and accessory retailers in my area seen to stock the more higher end (pricey) holsters, instead focusing on the less expensive models.

The Super Tuck is fairly large but very comfortable. All that horsehide/leather forms to your body, prevents movement or sliding of the holster on your body, gives a wider platform to secure to your belt so it stays at the angle you want it to and when you pull the pistol out it's not pulling on one area prior to release.
I must say it hides very well too.
