I recently got a new job that allows the carrying of a concealed weapon so long as you are licensed to do so.

The issue is shirts must be tucked in and Im not sure what holster would work with that.

The attire is a polo style shirt, jeans and a belt.

The weapon(s) Id need a holster for would be a full size 1911, and a SIG P229 40 S&W non rail.

The holster can be leather, kydex or a combination of either. Obviously inside the waistband with a tucked in shirt

Preferably sold on Amazon as that just makes it easier for me.

I have little experience with inside the waistband holsters and even less with any that allow you to tuck in a shirt. I did search Amazon and saw a few but Id like some recommendations/advice from those of you who have the knowledge and experience.

Thanks!

I had an experience many years ago with an IWB holster and tucked in shirt. Perhaps there are better ways to do it now, but I decided then that I would never do that again. Can you use a light vest and go with OWB?

Unfortunately no, though its a bit warm here to wear anything more than required haha.

Im open to trying different holsters/designs so long as it may be viable.

Its definitely going to be a learning curve.

When I tuck I like my Galco KINGTUK AIR. This holster works very well. It does take some practice but when you get the hang of it it's easy. I carry a standard DW Commander 45.

You really should check out the video I linked above after posting. It's not a gimmick.

I just watched it, I do 100% agree it could be a viable option for some but my circumstances I dont think it would work well.

Though, I may give it a try if I cant find anything else. Im definitely open to trying a variety to find what works.

You’re carrying a large and somewhat heavy gun. I would opt for something like a Crossbreed holster that spreads that weight out.
They are tuckable and you get a month to wear it, if you don’t like it, send it back for a full refund.
I have a couple of them and they’re a bit stiff until the leather forms to your body and then they’re very comfortable.
It has a kydex shell that’s molded to the gun and attached to a leather main body.
Plus, if you buy a different gun, they will trade kydex shells with you.
Not overly pricey either. $50-$70 ballbark

Thanks! I will take a look at those. That actually seems like the perfect solution.

You may get more feedback in the gun leather/ carry gear sub forum.

I thought I posted this in the proper sub group/area if I didnt I apologize.

I did look at the holster you recommended. Will probably order it tomorrow.

I have a correction to make. It’s Alien Gear holsters that will exchange the kydex shell, not Crossbreed. I don’t think they’re user changeable.

If I may offer another option.

If your employer allows you to wear cargo pants, Duluth Trading Post "Fire Hose Pants" and "Fire Hose Flex Pants" have pockets big enough to swallow a full size 1911.(And still get a good grip).

For me , the gun snags a hair in the Fire Hose pants. It slides right out of the Flex pants.

Yes...... I really do pocket carry a 5" 1911, in a "Sticky" pocket holster.

FWIW, I have a 36" waist. 200#s

The look on peoples faces at the range when I pull it are......priceless.

Good luck in your quest.

Once upon a time, when I was slim and trim, a long time ago,
Milt Sparks VMII did a good job for my IWB carry. I know a lot
of others swore by it too. They wouldn't have it at Amazon, and
there always used to be a long wait, but you may want to consider
it in your long term plan.

I wore suits with tucked shirts for work for over 20 years. I needed to be able to remove my suit coat and still keep the gun concealed. OWB was not possible.

I tried different tuckables and found them unsatisfactory. I tried a belly band that required reaching in through my shirt. Also did not like.

I hit upon the original Thunderwear (Same as the Smart Carry copy) and wore it low appendix just below my belt. My shirt tucked in behind the holster, so drawing involved reaching down and grabbing the grip and pulling up through the waist. The shirt did not move.

A FS 1911 would be too big for me in that region. I first used a KelTec P-11, then a Kahr PT-9. Now I use a Shield 9mm with a +2 mag. In the extra pouch on the left I carry a spare 10-round mag, a small flashlight and a folding knife. The whole rig is accessible with either hand. It is secure. No one will steal your gun from the holster. Pleated pants hide everything well. Bathroom chores are easy.

I have thousands of days I carried this way undetected. It works. Limitations are with the size of the gun, and it is best to remove all sharp edges that might affect the draw. I feel better with a DAO trigger carried this way, but my Shield works fine.

I can share even more with you by PM if you want.

I'd say Crossbreed or AlienGear would be your best option. My EDC used to be a Dan Wesson 15-2 and I carried it in an AlienGear and I could tuck loose fitting Ts or regular dress shirts in and you would never see that I was carrying unless I bent over at the waist, learned to bend at the knees and that took care of the printing when i bent over. It takes a couple of weeks for either the Crossbreed or the AlienGear to breakin and form to your body.

Honestly , I just read about 2 items that really do not work together very well. IMO of course....

IWB & full size 1911 / Sig P226 , with the shirt tucked in...

Regardless of your body type , I really can not envision "any" full size carry gun being worn IWB.....with a shirt tucked in (over the gun).
is it doable? of course , there are multiple holster options that will make those accommodations...the shirt having to be tucked in is the deal breaker IMO

Once again just my honest opinion.
let us know of the outcome - thx !

I tend to agree with this. You might be better off with a Shield 45 and a Stealth Gear vent core mini. That's how I carry IWB with a shirt tucked. Dang big ol' 1911 is hard to hide IWB.

Given the restrictions placed by your boss on office dress, I think you need to look at a smaller gun.
With the newer ammo, 9mm is a viable option in a small pistol. I'm not at all against 1911s.
I've got two of them in .45 ACP, but they are OWB pistols, at least for me.
SIG and Kimber both make small 1911 style in 9mm the would be easily carried IWB tucked.
My opinion, worth only what it cost you. :)

Aw, come on. The man wants to carry his .45. He wants some ideas for that or his big Sig. Holster suggestions not different guns.

Serious question here. Why "obviously" inside the waistband? Even an IWB doesn't completely conceal the handgun when worn with a tucked in shirt. The wearer has to have something showing above the belt line...has to be able to draw the pistol without having to reach all the way down inside the pants below the waistline to grab hold of the grip.

Or am I looking at this wrong? My point is, you say you'll be allowed to carry concealed at work now. An IWB holster is not going to fully conceal the handgun.

Here's a DeSantis IWB holster for an example. There's definitely gonna be some gun showing above the waistline.

Im not against other suggestions however I am pretty set on the 2 guns I mentioned. I do appreciate sticking to the info I provided though.

I understand not everyone may like my choices but those are the options I have. My only other viable option is a Glock 19 which may work its way into the lineup but not my first choice.

"obviously" inside the waistband because if it was outside/on the belt it would be visible with a tucked in shirt. Unless Im misunderstanding what you are saying.

Of course the gun will be somewhat printing with the shirt tucked in but its still technically concealed by the laws of my state and policy.

It doesnt have to be "undetectable". It just has to be "concealed" in the loosest definition.

I do love foxtrotconcealment. I carry IWB, kydex, 100% of the time, and it's easy to drape your shirt over the grip. The biggest gun I carry IWB is a Ruger SR9.
