Holster Suggestion for JM 625

Looking for a holster for the JM 625. I intend to use it for trips to the range and possibly some everyday carry.

I see on the SW site they have some Galco's for the 625. I know that Galco makes some pretty good equipment and I'm wondering if someone is or has used one and how they felt about how it handled the 625.

I don't intend to try and carry it concealed but a good holster would be better than sticking it in my belt. LOL

Appreciate any help.

I like the way Rolan's holster rides close to his body but.... Not knowing what's available for the 625 (specifically) I have one suggestion that applies to most any "close carry" holster: get something that has a "sweat shield" on the inside. For example, I have a Milt Sparks, IWB holster for a full size 1911 that would be perfect except for the fact that it doesn't have a sweat shield. Not only does the shield protect the inside of the gun from body moisture but it makes the wearing a million times more comfortable.

Actually I have another suggestion - don't buy something until you explore the Kydex holsters that are available for your purposes. Leather is beautiful but Kydex is functional. Good luck.

I have the Galco Silohuette high ride and it works very well for both me 6 1/2 inch 610 and my 625JM.

It features an open bottom so it will accomidate any barrel length, however with the long barrel on my 610 it does feel a bit like I'm pulling the grip into my armpit during the draw. With the shorter barrel on the 625 the draw can be done relatively efficiently but no high riding holster will be a good choice for a fast draw contest. If you are looking for a holster for IDPA, it's a good workable holster because low riding fast draw specific holsters are specifically banned from use in IDPA.

Now one tip for any holster that uses a snap for retention. I learned many years ago from my father that a bit of bees wax on the snap will make it much easier to open or close the snap. I use Atlas Door Ease, which is basically a stick of bees wax and all it takes is a light tap on the thumb break to pop the snap free for a draw.

As forthe Galco product line, they aren't pretty customs, what they are is good functional holsters that last for a long time with minimal maintenance. In my area they are also available off the rack so it's convenient for me to pick up whatever I need without waiting for a custom holster. Because of this all my holsters are Galco's and so is my gun belt and I have no complaints at all.

Since you mentioned a wax tip, beeswax (or paraffin) will also restore a "difficult" zipper on your field bag, gun case (or whatever) to its original function privided all the teeth are still there. All you do is swipe the wax along the length of the zipper - both sides is probably best - and wipe off any excess.

I carry mine in a Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake. I love the holster. I wear it in the appendix position at about 2:30. It holds the gun high, securely, and very close to my body.
