Hello everyone. I have a new to me S&W 4566 and I would like to find a quality holster. Although I may want to find an IWB for next summer, right now I am looking for a belt holster. Please let me know what holsters have worked, or not worked, well for you. My only requirement is that the holster has the leather protector between the weapon and the user. Thanks for any info you can provide.

I use a 4516, 4566 and/or 4506 everyday as a detective, and I carry them for long hours. I like Kramer holsters and they're specifically made for each weapon, but in general anything for a P228/P229 will fit the 4516. Anything for the P226 will fit the 4566.

I found the same thing, my 4566 would fit in holsters for a Sig P226.

That 4566 was one of the most accurate 45's I've ever owned.

Lobo has a number of styles and will add the slide shield to most

Don Hume H721 with thumb break, or H721 OT (open top) both have the slide shield

I have Galco CM244 pancake holsters as well for each of my pistols, from the 39s to the 3rd gens to use for range holsters and will occasionally carry them as well. They tend to be pretty secure, but not "retention" holster. They also don't have the slide/side protection you mentioned.

I really dislike any of the "plastic" holsters.

I found some very nice safariland leather holsters for the Sig 220 for ~$25 on ebay, and they work beautifully for the 4566.

Hmmm, I have a S&W 1076 and a Sig Sauer P226. My 1076 actually is a tad bit narrower and the trigger guard has a smaller profile then my P226. This causes the 1076 to be loose in good holsters fitted for my P226.

I just mention it so that you don't order something new and find it doesn't fit. On the other hand, if you find a good deal on a used holster you might give it a try because you could probably turn around and sell it for what you have in it if the holster doesn't fit your S&W.

I currently use a Fobus #SG-21 which others have stated is for the Sig P226. I bought this for my 6906 and had to file the inside of the holster a little bit as the slide release was rubbing and was hard to fit. Now it works like a charm, and the best thing is, I got it for my 6906 but found out after buying a 4566TSW and a 4003TSW they all fit real good.

Can't get any better than that, I like having just one holster for all, :)

Alessi CQC or Andrews Leather MacDaniel II are 2 suggestions I would make. There is also a member of the forum Lobo Gun Leather that makes some quality holsters--and will probably have a shorter wait period.

I also agree with the Kramer Holster, I wear mine everyday all day long. Works with the 4566 and my 1076. I have owned 1 Galco, gave it back to the Galco salesman when I happened to see him in a gunshop. The worst holster I have every seen.

A friend who has both a Kramer and Milt Sparks told me last year about his newest, and favorite holster. It was made by Tim Thurner of TT Gunleather.

I contacted Tim, and he made me a beautiful IWB for my S&W 4014. I am wearing it now (as I do every day). I got it in record time as far as these things go.

Tim makes awesome holsters, and he is really interested in working with us on the S-W forum especially for 3rd gen's. I believe you will get a custom made holster from Tim at a great price, and in a lot shorter time than any of the other custom holsters:

By the way, don't forget to get a decent, purpose made belt for your holster, whether you get one from Tim or someone else. That makes a huge difference.

I have a Galco OWB (cop model with thumbstrap) that actually works pretty well for me with 5906 series guns. But the TT Gunleather holster is as good as or better than anything I've seen, including those by Sparks and Kramer.

My only requirement is that the holster has the leather protector between the weapon and the user.

I ordered the Coverup Plus a couple of months ago and also wanted a large sweat shield. What I received was exactly what I wanted so I don't think you'll be disappointed with Rob's work.

Plus, I found that my 6906, 908 and CS9, all with CT lasers, fit well and I suspect most of the 3G 40's and 45's will also fit. The Coverup Plus has adjustable retention so it needs minimal boning on the user side and is the most comfortable IWB holster I've ever found.
