a Simply Rugged Sourdough is exactly what you need. I have the "Loaded Pancake" model (with retention strap & border stamp...got it dolled up since it was a Christmas present :) ) for my 6" 686+ and it is great. I like the ability to wear it strong side or crossdraw as the spirit moves.

holster reality

You know I've used a lot of different holsters over the years and it's pretty hard to beat the serviceability of a good used Bianchi 5BHL . They can be had at almost any gunshow or on Ebug for a lot less. If it doesn't suit you, you're not out a serious investment.

Hi,
I am looking for an additional Holster for my 686 6" too...
Currently have a Shoulder Holster and I am very interested in this Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake Holster...

Do you find this rides high enough so that you can conceal the revolver/holster with a long shirt or coat?

Also, wondering how comfortable the weight of the revolver is on the belt, compared to the shoulder holster?

Thanks!

The Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake Holster conceals very well and is super comfortable. Check out their website and if you want to talk on the phone to the owner/founder of this enterprise, Rob Leahy, he is very accessible and helpful!

I've never tried concealing this one...here in Florida it's a t-shirt for me (other than that one cold week we have each year :p ). As far as weight-wise on a belt, it carries very well for me. When I've got this one on I'm usually wearing it cross-draw.

LOL...I live in NY, So needless to say I have extra clothing on "most" of the time...lol.
What I was wondering is how far down this would be on my leg and if a long shirt/coat would cover it...
I realize it's pretty bulky and would be noticed if someone was really looking.
I am using this mainly for hunting, so conceal is not that important...(I have my 642 for total concealment when doing other activities); But was wondering if it could be concealed with my hunting clothing if I didn't want to "advertise" that I was packin the revolver?
Also, do you have any pics? Was wondering how it looked for this model...and what the border stamp looks like...

Thanks for the Help!

Thanks for the Help...
I was able to communicate with Mr. Rob Leahy earlier today and found him to be very knowledgable, honest and helpful...

Thanks again, Andrew

Hi,
I've used a Barsony Shoulder Holster for my 6" 686 for the past year...it was under $30.00 and has did the job...
Fairly easy to conceal with a hunting jacket too.

I guess what I don't like is when bending forward the revolver flops ahead...kinda minor problem and if you have a jacket on it limits this.
Also, the other thing I don't realy like is fit...my revolver goes down in the holster beyond my rear sight and when I draw the revolver it catches on the sight somewhat...
But all and all, it's been a good purchase!

Anyway, I am Happy to say that I've ordered a Simply Rugged Pancake Holster...I will let you know my thoughts on this once I get a chance to try it out...can't wait!

I think the very best holster is a Bianchi 5bhl in tan(with basket weave pattern if you can find it), or a Bianchi cyclone which allows strong or cross-draw with full trigger guard coverage. I have both and they are very sturdy, they are not the size of a big pancake with excess leather.

I find pancake holster to be very uncomfortable. I just use cheap $20 owb nylon holster for my 6".

I hear a lot of good things about Simply Rugged, although I do not own one (yet).

I do own several El Paso Saddlery holsters and have been very pleased with their workmanship and comfort.
I also own a Tucker Gunleather holster which has been on my hip lately as I leave the home.
El paso makes a holster for $115 called "the tanker" which looks like it would work quite well for keeping a hunting firarm close to the body to conceal inside of a jacket and not sticking out to rub on passing branches.

Tucker also has holsters for hunting purposes as does Simply rugged.
