I have a Hopkins and Allen Arms Co. Safety Police top break revolver I believe in .32 and am looking to verify some information. The exposed part of the grip says E9 676 and then underneath the grips it says AG 32 5. The information I have is that it was made in 1906 but I have since found conflicting information.

The patent marking says "AUG 211956" and it shoots 32SW which is such a unique caliber. I saw several other threads here but none of them were the safety police one. Thanks for welcoming me to the community and glad to be here!

32 S&W is easy to find if you reload. Just a word of caution though. At the last gun show I attended I had a couple topbreaks in 38 S&W I was selling. Someone very confidently told me that they preferred to 32s to the 38s because you can shoot 32 ACP in a 32 S&W revolver. I could not persuade him the 32 ACP and 32 S&W were NOT at the same pressures. When it comes to the topbreaks, just because the ammo fits does not mean it's safe to shoot. If someone here tells you otherwise remind them that you have a top break, not a J frame.

Welcome to the forum. I'd add to the above remarks that for shooting purposes, I think you'd be well advised to stick to .32 S&W short. So far as a date of manufacture goes, I doubt you'll ever be able to narrow that down within the known 1908 to 1915 range. The following article should answer most of any other questions you may have about this revolver: Hopkins & Allen Triple Action Safety Police Revolver

Regarding value, this example sold at auction just a couple weeks back: Attention Required! | Cloudflare
