This is in response to Miracle Man's thread about Hornady .357 Magnum brass being the wrong length.Obviously many of you do not understand SAAMI dimensional specifications and SAAMI.

SAAMI, The Sporting Arms and Manufacturers Institute is a group of arms and ammunition manufacturers which establishes the various dimensions for firearms barrels and chambers and ammunition. The published figures are determined by agreement of the various makers and compliance is voluntary, there is no requirement to adhere to any published data! Hornady has it's reasons for making various cartridges shorter than SAAMI, and doing so is in no way wrong! They clearly describe these differences in their loading manuals.

The only cartridge case dimension that is critical for safety reasons in maximum case length, for what should be obvious reasons. This is just like primer pocket dimensions in several calibers.

This just shows the importance of inspecting components when re-loading! If you are in too big a hurry, or think component inspection is too much work(you're too lazy) then whatever problems you have with varying dimensions between makers with range pick-up brass is your fault!!! Quit crying that the manufacturers are wrong or don't know what they are doing, or they are doing something wrong and should be forced to comply with SAAMI dimensions.
Do what you should be doing and all of these problems will simply go away.

Yes, I am old and crotchety! I have been doing this for more years than most of you and learned many years ago that some things are just different and adjustments need to be made to avoid these sort of problems. Again, if you refuse to make these adjustments it is your fault!
