Long tory made short, an old refrigerator short circuited and took my house with it. So let's be careful out there with old refrigerators!

I will post pictures when I get to a real computer. I literally lost only seven guns and the reason I lost those was because they were not in my safe nor were they in the extremes of the house. All of them were in my living room and that took the brunt of the fire. My living room self defense gun, an old Model 10, nickel, 4", standard barrel, a S&W Model 4 lemon squeezer, an antique pocket pitol from a long defunct maker, a broken, ancient side by side 12 gauge, a broken Model 73 Winchester, also ancient, and a 98 Mauser rebarreled to .308/7.62 Nato by the IDF in the 1940s. Everything else was either too far rmoved from the flames or was in my gun sfe.

The guns in the safe got wet and were all cleaned by a master but they are all "marked". Still shooters but some value was lost except the 5903 SSV. Came out pristine in its box!

Nobody hurt, dogs safe, pet snake didn't make it.

Now we rebuild - BIONIC - better than before!

My sympathy for your loss!

I suffered a house fire in 1993 with no renters insurance (Dept. House ).
My dog was saved, had the clothes on my back and my 631 in my pocket.

Looked very bleak for a bit but thanks to our Good Lord , generous friends , and family I survived.

This adventure we call life goes on. All of our adversities teach us.

I do miss the photos ! and several of those ivory stocked revolvers.

In February of 1985 my house caught fire, and we were not home. A passer by saw it and called the Volunteer fire department. The Assistant Chief is my brothers B-I-L, so that's how I learned about it. I arrived about an hour after everything was out. I expected to see a smoldering foundation! But there was a hole burnt through the kitchen wall and broken doors and windows but we moved back in at the end of May! No loss of life or guns, but a major interruption in your life!

I'm glad you didn't loose everything as so many do.

We had State Farm Insurance, and they were pretty good about replacing everything. Just remember to include the scopes and mounts as separate items, or their value will get lost in the shuffle! And have all the clothes dry cleaned, even the towel and bed sheets. The Nylon smoke from the carpet doesn't just wash out with Tide! Since you didn't have a total loss, you should have plenty of coverage to do things right, so enjoy that part.

Just found your post. House fire is one of the five worst losses anyone can face, about as bad a loss as you can sustain other than the death of a family member. Very sorry to read of your loss. Man, sorry....

That is really terrible. MOST things in a house you can go out to a store and buy, but those special things can't be replaced. We got our house messed up bad, but only the kitchen actually burned. I'm relieved that my piano didn't get it. Sure, it could be replaced, but I want THAT one, as well as some of my guns.

After all the disappointment I'm glad people and doggies made it. Sorry about the snake, though.

Your "BIONIC" comment reminded me of an Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) home building site I toured. The owner said ICF added about 7% to the cost. I ask why he chose it considering the added expense, and he said it was a replacement for a house lost in a fire, and he didn't want to go through that again.

I just got rid of my malfunctioning frig. My broke frig. sounds like it could have been worse, too.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I know what can be done in lighting and electrical appliances and the savings is significant. We are in a new home with all LED lighting and there is a significant savings. make sure you do your research and don't just go with any builder. Good luck with the next steps.

Well, that sucks. Glad no one was hurt. Houses can be rebuilt. People, not so much.

I whine about the cost of my State Farm insurance, but when something bad happens they take good care of me. Hope yours does as well.

Sorry to learn of your loss

Fire is one of the most feared catastrophes a homeowner may suffer. i have a close friend and an aunt who each suffered severe house fires and I remember their anguish.

I also remember as a boy of about seven years old, I nearly set grandma's ancient wood-frame house afire while using a candle to find something in the basement. Thank God my then 20-year-old uncle was home to save the day, the house and everyone in it.

I do hope you recover quickly. I would have a gunsmith check out the guns. Some might be salvageable if not directly in the fire.

So sorry to hear of your loss. It does act as a wake up call here, we have an old refrigerator in the garage, still works but you never know. Might be time to get it checked out our maybe consider donating to charity. Hope things work out for you with the insurance.

Sorry, but sounds like it was not as bad as it could have been. How did you keep a refrigerator long enough to short circuit? It must be really old because they are no longer designed to last more than 5-10 years. Good luck on rebuild.

I had a minor water loss in my bedroom; the wall to wall wool carpet got wet, delaminated the backing. Just got the estimate for 327 sq ft-$4,700.
