How about a N frame snubby picture thread?

Well, since someone brought it back...

That would be me, Ham... This thread should be sticky'd at the top considering the amount of recent interest with short barreled "N-Frames" and/or the "Combat Magnums..." In the last year prices have risen 35% alone on these bad ladies! I should know as I've bought 2 of them since July and the wife is still askin' "You aren't over there on that laptop buying more Smiths are you?"

Nice pistol HK Cavalier. I'm really digging those latter Goncalo Alves grips with their flatter profile you got there!

Here is a pic of my M629-5 with the standard "GA's" I've swapped from my Lew Horton pictured a few posts above to this one...
Lastly is a pic of the 3 of my short .44's taken this past summer.

I don't know about latter...they're original to the gun, made in 1985. They're not as shiny as some I've seen from that time.

Mine are from 1985 too, and are shiny. But later in 85' I thought there were some LHS's that came with the flatter profiled grips but am not positive. Someone on here a month ago had a pair of the flat GA's on his and said they are awesome. A pic of the frame/stocks back to front will certainly tell what their profile is.

S&W switched over to the flat side combats around 1990. They were used on the Classics and Magna Classics. The wood was Morado or Pao Ferro (same thing I believe). They weren't a Lew Horton thing. Here's a set on my 629-3 5" Classic.

I think the grain of the wood on my 624 makes them look flat. They're not. I've held an early 1990s 610 with combats, and yes they felt different.

Decided to change the grips on my 625-7. A lot of people on this forum like Ahrend's, so I thought I would check them out. I saw a few N frames with maple grips here and online. At first I thought, blonde grips on a stainless gun? The more I looked the more they grew on me. So, I ordered a set of their maple Tactical grips from Gripseller and 3 days later I had them. My only gripe is the finish was a little rough. A few minutes with 0000 steel wool, a rub down with rottestone tripoli and a couple of coats of Johnson's paste wax and they were good to go. Can't wait to get to the range.

Looks great! I was fortunate enough to find one of those beauties, and will try her out next week!

Can't believe I missed this thread so long.

I wanna play, the 3" guns are my real weakness. A few amateur photos of my display from the SWCA symposium in 2017. There are a few L frames as well. Nothing says " I mean business like a big bore snub ".

Best regards, Bob.

Love the 3"ers. Recently acquired 29-4. Added Combats.

I hate you!:D Just kidding... Tell us more about the M29-4... I've never seen a full-lugged M29 earlier than a -5 before so I'm interested in knowing all I can about your new "pistola"... Nice either way and feel free to post more pics as I like her a-lot!

You got that right! The Big-Bore 3" and to a slightly lesser extent, 4" barreled Smiths are all I'm interested in anymore as well. I won't even consider anything with a barrel over 4 inches anymore in Revo's or Semi-Automatics... save my CZ 97B .45acp whose barrel is 4.6 inches... Nice Revolvers Bratliff! Thanks again for helping me with my Mountain Back Packer questions...
