How about a new school N frame beauty contest?

Here is my 629-2 I picked up a couple months back. This is my first N frame and I love it. I was getting ready to buy a 629 hunter but I bought this instead just because I already have a 686 Classic with the unfluted cyl so now I have a matching pair. I can always buy a hunter when my funds allow.

I respectfully disagree. There are so many great grip options out there. I see no reason to saddle such an interesting gun with plain ol' rubber grips. It's not like .357's in a 47 oz N frame are real hard kickers even with full power loads.

Life's too short for plain rubber grips IMO. :)

You didn't come right out and say that appearance is what really matters (to you). I do the grip art and fit thing with my carry guns, but the big range guns get grips based on how they shoot in my hands. For example, my Smith 625JM came back around the grip trip and works best for me with rubber finger groove grips. My 5" 629 shoots best with Pachmayr's new Diamond Pros. There are others.

Appearance comes secondary to fit and how I shoot (for me) with a given style of grip, but with all the options out there, it's not that hard to find something that both shoots and looks good IMO.

For example, back when I had K frames, I shot equally as well with Pachmayr Compacs as I did with Sanbar Stag Magna style w/ a Tyler T grip.

Here's my only n frame with the IL which is what I interpreted as "New School". Here's my 629-6 Talo w/o the skin shredding grips it came with. It and my 8 3/8" 500 are the only ones I own with the lock.

As far as the rubber vs wood debate, my view is to put the best looking wood on for goin' to church and concealed carry (so your shirt doesn't grab) and put the rubber grips on at the range where you know your hands are gonna get pounded.

Good looking iron there, tin knocker.
I'm with you on the grips. I was sporting a 329 with eagles today while pushing the cart for the misses, very comfortable.
Hope you had a great holiday

Chris

I posted earlier in this thread (post 23) with my 629 no dash, with Keith Browns.

Here is my 629-1 wearing Royal Walnut Kuracs. It is not pinned or recessed, but this one has it where it counts. No MIM parts (although MIM probably gets a bad rap), target hammer, target trigger, red ramp front sight and a nice set of Kuracs.

This gun has a GREAT trigger, and is so much fun to just hold, let alone shoot.

I have promised it to a good friend, if he outlives me.

Now there's a case where the Pachmayrs are better looking.;)

Just scored this magnificent magnum yesterday: 627-0 model of 1989. Christmas came early for me this year :)
(I apologize for the poor photo quality, currently limited to the phone camera, which is not too hot)
