How about Fergies rendition of the Nathional Anthem!?

I guess I don't get out much.
It gave me gas and I lost the vision in one eye!
Pathetic.

That was absolutely pathetic!
I'm hoping she is never ask to sing it again!;)

Wow, I wonder if that voice played a part in her divorce from Prince Andrew.

Are you serious, trying to make a joke, or just sort of out of touch?

If you're serious, you have the two "Fergies" really mixed up.

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, is the former wife of Prince Andrew, the Duke of York.

Stacy Ann Ferguson, aka Fergie, is a singer, songwriter, and actress. She was formerly a singer with the Black Eyed Peas. She was a straight-A student in school, by the way.

This is Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York:

This is Fergie:

As anyone can see, they don't resemble each other in the slightest.

What's up? Did I miss something?

I skipped over that like yesterdays news.

Fergie is obviously very impressed with herself. That rendition was not about the National Anthem, it was about this celebrity, and her ego, showing her millions of sycophants how cool, super hip, and amazingly wonderful she is..........ymmv

Do you know what they really need to do.....

Stop using the singing of the anthem as a star stage. Many stars want to gain notoriety or just show plain bad taste to get attention for themselves. It's NOT about the stars. Get ORDINARY people that can sing it well enough to be broadcast to the whole nation and the world. They won't have a need to show off and would maybe be proud of the honor and privilege.

That way every year they won't have a lottery to see how badly a singing star abuses the National Anthem. The singing of the anthem has become a FARCE. The anthem can be very majestic and it should be heartfelt. If you plan to use some singing style except for you own, then it's NOT heartfelt, it is contrived.

Listen to this Russian folk song and watch the people in the audience. It's not even their national anthem. It's just a folk song about love of country when away from home. All the person wants to do is go home and walk with his horse across the field early in the morning. On the world stage, we look like idiots.

It's obvious that the performers take their responsibility seriously.

I like the anthem sung pretty straight up. But for some minor flourishes I think Susan Tedeschi nails it here. Celebrities can do it right and they should.

A couple of thoughts. She would be great, if she was a mute. And, why do 'singers' feel they can improve on the national anthem? Would a painter go after the Mona Lisa with a can of spray paint to improve it?

This should be interesting. Most folks here have a pretty specific idea of how it should be sung!:D

Rosanne thinks hers was better!

Fergie's national anthem draws criticism | ESPN - YouTube

What FEW seconds I heard-I thoght were lousy and disrespectful. I know she can sing much better than that but--the snickers from the sports-hoolums-made it disrespecful. Sorry I wasnt clearer at the first of the post. I Still thought her rendition was in bad taste, but the ""players"" totally disrespected the flag, those who are serving, those who served, and those who DIED for the flag.

Id love to see those twerps go up against 20 Marine Drill Instructors--and the D.I's tear them all a new one.

BTW, I had always thought that fergi was a wrap singer as id never seen a photo of said person-also not knowing said person's gender till last night on the news.

I was all ready to say it wasn't so bad. I like Fergie, who is usually a very fine singer. And I don't mind singers changing it up - I really don't.

But then I listened to the whole thing, and it just sucked.

You just had a nicer shorter way of saying what I did. :D

I got as far as 0:23 and shut it off. If it were up to me, I'd NEVER invite a celebrity to do the Anthem, unless they signed a contract to sing it straight up, with a penalty for not doing so. If they refuse, buh-bye.

Any soloist from a local church choir could do it better than most celebs, whose ego all too often drives them to leave their mark on it. Well, it's not theirs to alter or butcher as in in this case; it's OURS - all of us - and we and the song deserve better. I wish some official would have shut off the mic and dragged her offstage mid-butchery. She obviously thought the song had something to do with tongue baths or throat spasms or some such and had not a clue what the story in the song is about.

Our national anthem was written in 1814. It started out as a poem, of course. Then it was set to the music of a popular British song titled "To Anacreon in Heaven", or "The Anacreontic Song".

I have to wonder, were people complaining about how it was performed two-hundred years ago, or on into the late 19th Century?

Be interesting to try and find out, I suppose, but it's too pretty a day to be sittin' inside foolin' around on a computer.
