How come it seem the Mid-MOE is cheaper than some of the basic M&P15's

It appears that the only rifle they have in stock is the basic M&P15 with the carry handle. The price on anything else is moot.

The retail price for the S&W carry handle sight is about $120, although you can buy other brands much cheaper. The difference in cost for the Magpul parts (handguard, stock, etc.) and the same S&W parts certainly can't be enough to make up the difference.

I believe the Mgpul version is a melonite finish w/integrated trigger guard, bit cheaper to produce. Also, looks like everything there is pretty much out of stock. Prices may be a bit higher when stock starts rolling in...

Around here, about 6 months ago when there were some M&P's in stock, the Sports sold out first. The Magpul version of the M&P15 seemed to sell last as I noted a few on the shelves when no other Smiths were available.

Could just be a coincidence or Smith made more of the MOE's.

When compared to the standard M&P15 A3 with detachable carrying handle.

Like bigskyguns.com has the mid moe for $1066 and the A3 for $1100.

Mid-length is a solution to a non-existent problem. Very little desire for one, as most people want the true military configuration, either carbine length or full length gas system. The kinks were long ago worked out of the carbine length gas system, and I think you would have a better market trying to sell, if you ever decided to sell, the ordinary carbine length.

it alls comes down to the gas pulse, the rifle was designed with a longer barrel and gas system. This is what I have read and heard old timers talk about. I got acquainted with the M16 during the change over from M16 to the M16A1's. Anyway when they changed the rifle to a carbine with the shorter gas system the timing of the gas pulse was too quick for the sharp and quick. Problems with feeding and ejection and even timing on the BCG. When they changed buffer sizes they were able to get the rifle to run. Some believe that the gas pulse is still to quick and supposedly the middie runs cooler and smoother because of the longer gas pulse. The problem comes in that not everyone builds accessories for the middie system and not all accessories work with them. Having never shot a mid-length system I really dont know, I do know that the rifle length is a lot smoother than my carbine. It seems there is validity but who knows. I do know that the 1:8 5R barrel is worth paying a premium for. I have had 2 and they both shot unbelievably accurate! For the style of varmint hunting I do I would like to have one. I would dump the magpul handguard and front sight in favor of a free float tube and a minimum of 6-20x50 Scope :D
