How come they call it PITA bread?

From the Great British Baking Show episode it is. I have made a lot of Naan bread but a good pita has to have the inside pocket and stay firm enough to hold the food. If it wont do that it's just a pain in the area.

Last night we had hamburgers in pitas instead of on buns. Big old patty, spear pickles, pepper rings, pepper jack cheese, and deli mustard in a low carb pita. The onions and spices were mixed in the burger! So good!
