I have just brought home a beautiful M29-2 that is in excellent condition except for the need for a good cleaning and one small bit of pitting the size of a pin head on the side of the frame just above the cylinder release. (see picture) I can live with the blemish and realize that no amount of polishing will remove it. I suspect that working on the spot would probably make it worse. My question is, what can I do to prevent the spot from growing over time? I am sure that there is a very small defect in the nickel finish in that area. I have some Renaissance wax. After cleaning the gun, do you think the wax will be enough to seal the area and prevent further damage...or do you recommend something else?
Thanks.

you could try polishing that area, trying to blend in the surrounding area also with either Mothers mag polish or flitz polish going lightly.then a application of Renaissance wax to seal

Great advice. Make sure you heed the part about going lightly.

I would just put a good coat of wax on it and call it quits.

To be absolutely certain the rust is dead, put a couple drops of Kroil on it, and let sit for a few hours, then proceed with the "light" blending of Flitz or Mothers and finishing with Renaissance Wax.

Thank you all for the great advice. I will do it that way. I will just have to find some Kroil... or other penetrating oil that displaces moisture.

As you can see, the gun is in pretty decent shape, despite that one spot and I want to keep it that way.

Thank you!

Nice looking gun. I don't think that it will spread just keep it well oiled and waxed. Nickel finishes are touchy so dont over polish it. Nice presentation box and grips. You can take the cylinder release button off very easily so you don't have to wax around it just be certain to use a proper fitting screwdriver. I wouldn't let it bother me to the point of selling over a small imperfection as you will regret it and even more when you see the price of replacing it with another one!
