How do the Trolls get your emails.

There's a lot of ways, not the least of which is all the data-breaches that have occurred at various companies. The stolen data is sold.

I don't use credit cards on internet sites except for Amazon. I get enough emails from Amazon selling but no real spam..Same with the Costco card...lots of emails . I don't pay credit cards on line I pay them all with a checking account over the phone. Even SS doesn't seem to be free from scamming emails and phone calls. But I too seem to be getting stuff I never got before I looked at upgrading a phone on Verizon. I get very few spam calls on my landline...but it is VOIP based

In 2024, you have no privacy...period.

Almost anything anyone wants to know about you is available online through either public or private sources. Your name, address, phone numbers and email addresses...places you've lived...your schools...names of relatives...your income...what you drive...your workplaces...court cases you've been involved in...you name it, it's out there. Paying bills by check instead of credit card, or avoiding social media sites, isn't going to protect your privacy.

The trick is to prevent those who access your information from using it to scam you or steal money from you. And the way to do that is to use difficult passwords, change them frequently, and use common sense to avoid being victimized. Check your credit cards and bank accounts frequently to make sure there are no unauthorized transactions. Never open links in text messages or emails from unknown sources. Never reply to such contacts...just delete and block them. Don't accept friend requests on social media from people you don't know.

For those of us who grew up in pre-Internet days, this is all very strange, and it can be a little intimidating. But with normal common sense and a healthy dose of caution, we can get through it...
