How do you carry your J's?

I've been carrying J-frames as BU/OD guns for 30 years, and only in my pocket. My current pocket holster is the Desantis Nemesis. I only own one belt holster for the J, and that's just because some places won't let you draw from a pocket holster.

If I'm going to put a gun on my belt, then I can easily carry something much more effective than a J.

Pocket carry a 640 the year around, usually in a DeSantis Nemesis or an Uncle Mike's pocket holster if the pants I'm wearing have skimpier pockets. Both holsters are inexpensive and do what I want them to do; but since I got the Nemesis I definitely prefer it.

The gun is always in the strong-side front pocket, never a cargo pocket.

My M38 Bodyguard usually gets carried from May to October. And, when it does... it's in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster in my right front pocket in my cargo shorts.

640-1 rides in an ancient IHL pocket holster most of the time and a Galco Concealable if on the hip. Recently acquired Mikka, Remora, and Desantis Summer Heat holsters for the Models 36, 63, and 642-1 snubs.

Can't hardly think of ever carrying a J frame as an only gun. But for a number of years , carried them as BUG(s). One or other of ankle , and diagonal shoulder holster worn under the outer shirt , and over vest ( or tee shirt as case may be) . Leave stratigic shirt button undone , and access was suprisingly good. Speed was similar to best case scenario w/ ankle, but with major differences specific scenarios.

Ankle was reasonably ambideterious , and easy access when seated. Under the shirt was strongly biased for right hand access ( not due to your hand dominence , but the cut of the clothing ) . For females that would be left hand access. But unlike ankle rigs , it works fine while moving.

Back in the day had Mika pocket holster, but rarely was pocket carry employer.

One memorable occasion I had 1911 , and K frame on belt , and small fr revolver in ( weak) pocket as tiertary. My biggest problem was keeping my pants up.

most days in Ryan Grizzle pocket holster. When the weather turns cool enough to allow for a light jacket i wear an inside the waist band holster.

Mika pocket holster in summer for my M442.
Lobo Pancake for steel J frame the rest of the time.
Also, I have a Lobo for my 4 inch M67-1, but it takes a longer over- garment than I usually wear.

Best,
Rick

I'm with Riverrat38. My 342Ti gets the pocket carry duty with a horsehide pocket holster. I find the Mika just a tad bulky for light summer clothing pocket use. Works great in a cooler weather jacket pocket with the 640-1.
Also the Lobo pancake and 36 when the mood strikes.

98.67% of the time my 642 rides in a pocket holster. usually it is an El Paso Saddlery holster but lately it's an Uncle Mike's because the EPS holster is old now, and slick, and sometimes rides out of my pocket with the gun. I'll be getting a new leather one soon - anyone got recommendations? It doesn't have to be EPS.

The other 1.33% of the time it is either in an EPS "Summer Comfort"-type of OWB holster, or some other belt holster (I have several), depending on my mood, or perhaps in an IWB holster (even more rare). On VERY rare occasions the 642 doesn't go out and a 649 takes its place.

I have a M32 that has yet to take its place in the sun but it will; I bought Buffalo Bore hard cast .38 S&W ammo for that day.

I think J-frames are my favorite despite the proliferation of so many other, larger Smiths in my safe.

340PD

I have had my 340PD for about 8 years and really like it for the lite weight. I often put it in a pj pocket in a Desantis holster and you don't even notice it there. I also have a kydex IWB holster I like to appendix carry. \

I usually keep the Hornady Critical Defense rounds in it as its a nice shooting round with out extreme recoil. It can be a beast shooting 158 grain .357 full power loads.

I have a Bianchi "Upside Down" shoulder rig, a Bianchi 9R and a Galco clip on - all bases covered.

J Frame Carry

In an Uncle Mike's # 36 fabric pocket holster (or a Blackhawk, which is the same thing) tucked into my strong side front pocket, with the clip over the pocket edge and covered with a t-shirt. Saw this carry at the range one day and never looked back...

A DeSantis inside the front pocket or an IWB for my M638.
Glad you like the M340 and thanks for the report on it. It's on my list.
As an aside I bought Hogue Coco Bolo grips for the M638.

My home made leather wallet simply folds in half on the short barrel and rides deep in my front pants pocket.
The cylinder won't go down into the wallet so it doesn't fall to the bottom of my pocket,
and it stays up near the top so it's easy to grab.

At checkout time, the wallet comes out with a little wiggling.
