As a WI resident I have never dealt with and FFL as I have always purchased face to face. Im helping a elderly relative who is an IL resident sell some guns and she has a few potential WI buyers lined up (guns are located in a WI vacation home). I know she has to ship to a FFL with some sort of letter of intent and ownership. What I would like to know is any other nuances to this transaction you guys can inform me of? When and how should the seller get paid? Much appreciated.

I'm not sure about the letter of intent thing. But in all my transactions it works like this:

Buyer sends me a postal MO (only)
Buyer sends/Fax's my FFL a copy of the FFL license he's use on his end.
Once I get payment deposited, I bring the gun to my FFL (usually postage paid to save him grief) and he ships to buyers FFL on the other end.
Buyer picks up gun at receiving FFL.
Note: if it's a long gun, you can save the transfer fee on the shipping end and ship yourself but it takes more coordination and agreement from the receiving FFL that he'll take a long gun from a non-FFL. Many won't. Personally, I just find it easier to use one on both ends of the transaction.
Fee's are generally $20-40 per firearm per transfer.
In your case, I would recommend she gets with a local FFL and explains what she needs to do. They can be very helpful.

Have the buyer of firearm fax, E Mail, or mail a copy of FFL they are using to the FFL you're going to use.
Once your FFL has their copy, he ships firearm with copy of his license and cover letter with buyers info and type/serial number of firearm.

NOTE:
A non FFL (regugar person) CAN ship directly to an FFL IF the FFL will accept from them.
In many cases FFL holders will not accept firearms from non FFLs out of policy.
See if the buyers FFL will accept delivery from a non FFL, might save a step.
