HOW DO YOU STORE BOXES

After 47 years of collecting S&W revolvers , I have accumulated
a few wooden boxes. Should I store them open or closed? All of my guns were purchased used not many have boxes.

Store them DRY is about the most important thing!

I keep mine closed, on a shelf, with a sheet of archival heavy stock between them. Not sure it's right, but that's how I do it.

A stack on top of my safe. Of course, I don't have any super-rare Registered Magnum boxes or anything...

I actually was expecting to hear how to store our prized cardboard boxes. Any best practices to share? I store mine in plastic Tupperware containers or heavy mil zip lock baggies. Trying to preserve the cardboard from any deterioration or scuffing. I agree, totally dry is a must.

Original boxes add to the value of collectibles. The better their condition, the higher the value. If you can, use them to store your gun, if not practical, box them up and store them in a safe, dry, environment, away from heat and sun exposure.

Toss them on the pile in the attic. Gun boxes. Long and short. Don't figger I'll need "em" anymore since i don't sell nuthin.

I do the same thing. They are matched with the guns and accouterments inside. If something ever happened to me, the heirs will have an easier task. I wrap the the guns in plastic wrap after they are lubed and they stay in the boxes. It looks like store stock in the vaults.

Handgun boxes are stored in the attic in a large plastic container. Wood or cardboard, they are in as good a condition as the day I got them and some of these go back decades. Rifle boxes are stacked on the attic floor. Dust has done no harm and wipes off easily.

I have mine closed, stacked with foam liner in-between each case in a cabinet. I also keep the cardboard gun boxes in there.
