A few months ago, I asked how everyone stores the gun boxes. Want to expand the question. How do you store / organize all of the loose grips, magazines, replacement parts, etc.?

I tend to throw this stuff in mixed boxes. It has become quite disorganized. Do you use drawers, separate boxes, Rubbermades...what's the secret here? I have a lot of boxes of grips, magazines, extra springs, decocker parts, screws, and so on. Would like ideas and, if you feel like it, pictures of these well-kept and organized storage areas. Trying not to be a slob. My wife will thank you for setting me straight.

Also, how do you keep track of "inventory" for lack of a better term. Do you keep a list?

For a short while I tried to inventory and organize. It was futile. I'm not good at that because I just don't care about it now, and when I was younger and did care, I didn't have the time. (And my worst fault was not being good at throwing useless stuff away.) Most of the time I have no idea what I have and where it may be without the proverbial attic-to-basement search, so I can't be much help to you. :o Good luck! ;) :D

I have stacks of jewelry boxes (the little drawer type) full of grips and parts on my gun bench. The good stuff. Other parts are in tackle boxes. Other grips are in drawers (in the same bench). Then I have a big makeup sales box with trays full of lesser grips.

All that junk goes into the trash bin and on pickup day it's out the door and into that big hopper in the back of the truck who then drive off and I never have to see that c*** again.

Not really. They go into a ziplock bag and then into a storage bin or ammo box.

I have a tool box just for gun parts.
Grips just a brown box.
Magazines take up the majority of a linen closet (no linens).

My grips go into zip lock bags, then into a drawer in my reloading bench. The magazines, generally, are kept in larger zip locks, by pistol. All the bags go in a plastic tub that is in the bottom shelf of my ammo locker. Spare parts are scattered around the gun room in various boxes. Holsters get thrown in a pile on top of the gun safe.

No list but I do try to mark what model the mags & parts are for.

I was facing the same problem as you. I'll start by saying it isn't a one size fits all situation. When you have a lot of identical or fairly similar items the Sterlite boxes that I bought from Walmart were a major part of the solution. These boxes come in various sizes. Figure out what size of box will fit a good quantity of spare magazines. I have one box for Browning High Power magazines, one box for Lahti magazines, one box for M-1 clips, and so it goes. If I have only a few magazines for smaller guns, I save the boxes from sliced turkey and wash them out. Just slap a label on each box. If I have a small number of parts unique to one gun, I use a ziplock bag with a card inside to describe what is in there.

I have a liquor box for storing cleaning patches. It holds a lot.

The next problem is setting up enough shelving to hold all the boxes.

I have to give credit to my CPAP machine for providing me with the ambition and problem solving ability to finally tackle this project.

I use various random boxes, were these days it seems to be trending towards the boxes from Amazon shipments :) Thinking about this, as time goes on I do have more boxes of stuff than years ago. One thing that does happen is every few years is I do go through the containers and sort what's in them and attempt to be more organized :)

I think it's best you figure this out for yourself because if one of us does it for you, you will forget where we put everything and you might not remember which forum member to private message to find out where everything is.

Magazines go in ammo cans with labels. Parts, especially consumables like springs, go in bags with labels and then into a small Rubbermaid. Grips, holsters, accessories get sold if they haven't been used for months or are otherwise essential for resale. Felt a little like a hoarder when I had boxes of unused trade in holsters and grips.

I put up shelves in the gun room for this. All small parts and like parts i.e., Ruger Mark pistol parts get tossed in the Ruger bag. Extra grips are lined up in order on a shelf and marked appropriately, N frame, K frame ext..., I remove the bolts from my rifles before they go into the safe, tag them and place them on a shelf also. my OCD will not allow less...

I repurposed an old 5 drawer dresser in the garage and it houses all my misc shooting gear very nicely. I even use the bottom drawer to hold all my rimfire ammo…
