How many golden retrievers is too many?

Re: German Shepherds

Our golden was the worst puppy I ever had but has grown into the most awesome dog.

All my life I've had German Shepherds...this is the first Golden...and the most un-German Shepherd like dog I could have imagined. shepherds want to please their owners and can't stand it when you're mad at them for some transgression. This Golden wasn't born with that part of her brain.

She's awesome and loving and I wouldn't have her any other way.

Much as we love Levi, our Golden, German Shepherds are our favorite breed. We bred them for over 25 years.

My German Shepherd, Hoss, was the smartest dog I have ever seen. He had all kinds of tasks he did, not a one of which I ever trained him to do. He would look at a task, decide he should do it, then take it over. Once he took over a task, he was not giving it up. He took over carrying my PPC cardboard silhouette targets to and from the target hangers. He also had to carry my ear muffs when I took them off. He was my assistant during the year I was chief range officer (ended by a promotion). Our personnel would see what he did and were amazed. I could have said that I was a great trainer, but instead I told the truth. I did not teach him anything. He just figured things out and did them.

We have loved all the dogs we have ever had. But I think once one has had a really great German Shepherd, they are spoiled for any other breed.

If only they lived longer......

We are on our 4th Golden since 1975. We did our wills so our daughter will get our house. I imagine the Golden population will increase very soon after our departure.
