How many magazines do you have?

20 - 69xx mags 5 - 15 rounders and 3 - 30 rounders
15 - 40VE and 40F mags
15 - M&P 40 FS and Compact
5 - 40xx mags (don't own one yet)

I try to have 5 minimum for any carry gun.

I likely have 50 for 1911 guns.

I have over 30 for Glock 22 (.40cal)

Three for Glock 27.

Five for Glock 17

Eleven for Glock 19.

Maybe 3 each for a dozen various type autoloaders in the gun room.

Just remember that a semi is a very expensive single shot handgun if the mag becomes defective or lost. Always have a spare available and I am not talking about carrying one around on you all the time. I am old enough to recall a several years ago when there were few mags on the market and those that were was being sold for super high prices.

For all my guns, I buy as many OEM mags as I can find/afford, especially the range guns. I also buy mag springs and Wolff spring kits for every gun I have, if they are available. I don't leave my mags loaded, except my concealed carry gun (of course). I also disassemble and clean my mags after every range trip.

Ill chime in here,,,

For my 4013tsw I have 5 total. one in the gun, one in the car, (carry on me) three waiting for the range.

I also want to 5 or more for the next gun I buy.

And since we are on the topic of mags, lemme ask ya this... Does it matter if you have the mag fully loaded, -1 round or empty for storage?? How often should ya rotate full to empty mags??

About 5 per gun. Exceptions are about 45 GI mags from when I had a gun for them and over 50 for the Beretta 92.

Fell into a deal on the latter thinking I could sell them for a small profit but have had no such luck so I suppose I'm stuck...or extremely ready:D

Question for you guys that have 30, 40, 50 or more magazines....

You do know they can be refilled right? :p :D

I have from 6 to 10 magazines for every semi-automatic pistol I own.

Depending upon which type magazine the pistol I'm carrying uses, I will normally carry one extra double-stack mag or two extra single stack mags.

1911's use a "standard" mag so there are 25 @ 45 acp, 6 @ 9 mm, doublestacks vary between 4 and 9 for each weapon, and sufficient rifle mags for sporting activities. Each 22 LR has at least 5 -- loads 50 count box at a time. I guess I'm magged out.

Semper fi, BoingBoing

I find that I like at least 5 per weapon. Having more helps with drills at the range. I think I have 7 for my Colt .22 Conversion unit, for example. Less loading, more shooting.

During the long civil war in Lebanon I had occasion to visit the city of Beirut on behalf of Uncle Sam as a member of our amphibious forces a few times.

When going ashore on an errand, I would draw a 1911A1 from the ship's armory. They would provide two magazines with 5 rounds of ball ammo each. (Didn't want to stress the magazine springs, don't you know).

I would always ask for two additional magazines from the young gunner's mate. On my first visit he asked "Sir, why do you need all of those extra magazines?" What I wanted to reply with was "Well, duh! young man. Everybody over the age of 12 in Beirut has an AK with a 30 round magazine, that's why.", but I was able to restrain myself.

What I would then do is go up to my stateroom where I had a genuine Colt magazine and a box of military ball ammo. I would then top off all of the magazines and go ashore.

The Colt magazines were always more reliable than the contract magazines, so the Colt mag would go in the pistol as the first one up.

Today I use Wilsons in every 1911 I have, regardless of make, and so I have at least 12 of them floating around, but none are specific to any particular pistol.

Have or carry? I think it prudent to have "several" for a gun. Whether that is 4, 5, 10 or more depends on the gun, what you do with it, your wallet, your fears, and so on. You never know when one will be lost or damaged or replacement mags will become difficult, impossible or overly expensive to obtain so I feel pretty good if I have 4-5 mags for a gun. Since many of my guns use the same mags, I actually have a lot more than that in many cases.

Carry...my carry days began with a six-shot revolver and two speedloaders, with extra rounds in the car along with more meaningful armament for those unusual situations. To tell you the truth, only when I let my imagination get the better of me did I think I needed to carry more than 18 rounds on me. Maybe if I had been working in some remote outpost somewhere where backup would be a loooooong way off I would have felt differently.

Then came the ability to carry 7 or 8 rounds in the gun and another 14 on the belt and for most cops and claw abiding citizens within the U.S. it is hard to imagine that not being enough. (I don't find most double stack guns to fit my hand that well). I know people who think they need to carry 17 in the gun and another 34 on their belt and there are others who will double that. The chances of needing anything close to that are so small I see no point, but if they are happy then I don't care.

Not wearing a uniform anymore, a gun and one mag seems plenty to me. Now if I were working for the Gov't. in the Middle East, Asia, Mexico, South or Central America, doing drug interdiction in the Everglades or elsewhere, etc., then things would be different.

I have one 12 round mag and two 15 round mags with adaptors for my 6906, and three 15 round mags for my 5903, and four 11 round mags for my 4006TSW. Then 11 other mags of different size, for different pistols. Im still adding to the collection though.
