My old "Blue Book of Gun Values" says about 200 were produced before the P&R era was over.

Does anyone have an opinion on this?

If that figure were true, your previous posts suggest you have over 1% of total production. ;).

I doubt anyone knows the exact number, but the 6" was made for 2-3 years and the 4" and 8 3/8" for sometime around a year. Call it several thousand in total.

I have no idea how many were made but last week I stopped in a small LGS in the Panhandle and asked "if they had any old S&Ws." They said they had just one, wasn't all that old but I took it anyway. So, if we're going to count 629 P&R guns here's one.

No idea what "rare" even means, a term spewed very loosely around the net. 629 ND

P&R Model 629s were made and shipped for at least two years before the Model 629-1 was introduced sometime in 1982. The number produced has never been determined, but would be in the several thousands or more of each barrel length. Perhaps the Blue Book is referring to the "prototype" Model 629s with a serial number beginning with N629. There were certainly less than 200 of those made.

Pinned barrel or not... I had the sudden epiphany about 2 years ago that the following was no longer true: Maybe it never was..:)
1 Pinned barrels were the only collectible revolvers
2. SS revolvers are not collectable
3. Semi autos (except Pre Model 39s) would never gain collector value.

Just a short visit to GB or other big auction boards will confirm just how collectible SS revolvers, semi auto and non pinned barrels can be.
