The 1970`s,when nearly any Magnum model S&W was nigh impossible to find? My buddy and I used to spend our Saturdays cruising all the local gun stores, and from 1973 till about 1979 I saw a total of two Model 29`s. Curiously, both were 8 3/8 inch,in the wooden box,and both were selling for $400,which was a hell of a slice of change for me,exactly 4 weeks pay to be exact.I saw one Model 19,which I bought. Colt SAA`s were common, but no one wanted them. Once I was in the LGS,and the clerk brought out a gun to show me. It was a 6 1/2 ,nickeled Model 29 that the owner had loaded a double shot of Bullseye into one of his handloads. The top strap and half the cylinder were probably still airborne. As far as Model 27`s go,I didnt see any till about 1980. We have it good today,guys....

I remember it well. A 6" M19 would be $275 if you got to see one. M66's were $325.
The N frames were available at one place in my area, a huge gun shop in Lexington Ky. They didn't have them all, but usually a good selection, $500 for 29's, maybe $450 for M57's & presentation case 3T 27's. All we could do was dream.

For comparison purposes, thinking the MSRP for a 19 was about $180, & 29 about $255.
