How many rounds before you trust?

Malfunctions are to be consider "Immediate Action Drills". When you have a malfunction immediately try to clear it and continue to fire. Don't be one of the folks I see at the range with the "What just happened and what the heck do I do now?" look on their faces. Clear it and get on with the drill. Try to do it quickly and cleanly. If it was in a real situation the other guy won't be stopping while you get your gun sorted out.

We changed sidearms occasionally in the NMSP; I wouldn't trust one until I'd done 2 qualification courses with duty ammo. Revolver or semi-auto.

Once we started getting better, newer equipment in the mid-eighties, I never had a problem. Prior to that I carried a personally owned firearm simply because I wasn't confident of the agency-reworked old M 19s they kept exchanging
