Let me explain,I don't work like that or for the city. I'm just on the road all of the time and see this all of the time.I even came up to a light and saw one of my customers leaning on a shovel.He looked kinda funny and I asked him if he had dents in his elbows from propping himself up like that.He's got a way nicer house than me and his wife doesn't contribute.Maybe I missed my calling.
I work a lot less hours and it's not political like his job though.

LOL! I work for T.D.O.T. (Tennessee Department of Transportation). Add hard hats, glow in the dark vests, and a few environmentalists, and that could be one of my projects....I'd be the project manager.

It looks like Alabama DOT to me. I've heard thru the grapevine that they gave our guys plastic handled shovels because the wooden handled ones were breaking too often from being leaned on.

Somewhat older folks work at our gun club on Wednesday mornings. The shovel is called a WPA shovel, because it is good for leaning on (long-handled spade).
