With all the harassment and abuse stuff going on I'm reminded of Will Rogers line, " No man is a complete failure, he can always be held up as a bad example". DO NOT BE ONE OF THOSE MEN! Instead try to be like the men I grew up with, Roy Rogers, Jimmy Stewart and John Wayne. They had simple rules,

1 Respect women.
2 Protect children.
3 Don't be cruel to animals.
4 Remember the golden rule.
5 What ever comes your way meet it standing on your feet.

It may sound corny and I know life wasn't perfect but these were good principles. I don't know exactly how but the rules have gotten lost somewhere along the way.

Anyone can say words about "Proper Treatment" of women, while they are talking, many real men are living a life of "Proper Treatment". It isn't about what is permissible or legal; It IS about doing what is RIGHT and not doing what is WRONG.

Not corny in the least. An excellent reminder on how all of should act. Sad to say from time to time I can miss that mark. But, as I get older that happens less and less.

If you will notice that since all the allegations started like a snowball rolling down hill the many accused men have been replaced by women and will be in the forefront of upcoming elections and high positions.

The shoe may soon be on the other foot.

If the accused can have his name defamed publicly then the name of the accuser and proof of the allegation needs to be made public.

I am not a fan of Al Franken or his politics but the man was railroaded out of office to be replaced by....a women.

The main railroader,Senator from NY,has presidential aspirations.

Who was Matt Lauer's accuser,and who replaced him.You guessed it....

Men,it's time to face reality or be demoted to "I could have been a contender".

I was just discussing this issue with friends last night. I have always said that there's two sides to every story.
Trying people in the public arena is a very dangerous precedent, especially if only half the facts are presented.

Having said that, I agree with the OP that our moral values have taken a big hit in our country. Hollywood and the entertainment industry has become a cesspool. As for Sen Franken, I saw the picture of him posing as if groping the sleeping female soldier. Totally improper and my guess is that he stepped down without much of a fight because he has more skeletons in his closet than he wants out in the public. So he cut his losses and ran.

What is normal male/female interaction and what is inappropriate/misconduct.

My Dad who grew up during the "great depression" then served the whole of WWII in the Army Air Corps was a pleasant but very matter of fact type guy with a hard earned opinion of how a man should be. He took care of his family,his word was a unbreakable bond,honest to a fault and just plain old dealt with all the sundry problems the world thrown at him with no complaint. I think his most arduous job was in molding me to be the good man he knew was in me, it took a bit but I think he did.

I rather think that today we are dealing with folk who did not have a Father or Grandfather in their life to teach them how to be a man.

I agree with most of the comments here. The only issue I have with some of what is going on now is guilt by 24/7 media. Unsubstantiated comments by the media is enough to cause the downfall of a person that has not be judged by a jury of their peers and found guilty.

I don't know if I am a good man. That is for others to say, not me. All I can say is that I try to be the best man I can.

I've never hit a woman or a child (though by observation my dad repeatedly taught me how to do it.) I have never forced myself on a woman but I was shocked to read in the paper that the song Baby It's Cold Outside is no longer acceptable because it is "rapey". In the song the guy is trying to get the woman to stay longer. I can't imagine any man who hasn't tried the same thing. I think it used to be called seduction.

AND NOT SAYING they asked for it but some sure sound like goldiggers jumping on the bandwagon. Take some responsibility ladies. Go out clubbing dressed like a hooker, twerk, grind your backside against the stranger you are dancing with, add alcohol &/or drugs, shake well then drive off with them ALONE. What could possibly go wrong? "We were drinking & doing drugs all night & he was a perfect gentleman, UNTIL HE WASN'T. The casting couch was around during silent films, NOT EXACTLY A SECRET. If a big wig answers the HOTEL ROOM door in a robe RUN. Better yet, bring your agent (or anyone) with you. How many went along with this outrageous behavior in order to get along/ahead? So a few years ago I stopped by the company I retired from. I was leaving and a group of us were going out the door, and some others heading toward their desks. One girl I'd worked with for well over 20 years said, "what no Christmas hug?" So I gave her a hug. And she said ouch, "too hard". Then I responded with "Thats the first time in 20 years anyone has said that to me".

Enough heard it that it got a big laugh. I have no idea how that fits into this thread, just a funny thing to remember.

The contemporary propensity seems to be to look for things by which to be offended. It's hogwash!

My older half-brother told me my dad was a scumbag. I'd reckon him a good judge 'cause his dad was one too. He told me if I wanted to know more about my dad I only had to ask. I didn't.

Mom and my grandmother raised me to be a man, and a gentleman at that. I rather believe my friends would suggest I still am.

Nobody on this planet can make a claim about me likes coming out about these politicians and entertainment folks. Nobody!
