I don't know if the "crisis" is over yet because prices are still high. I got back into shooting during the summer of 2014. I was down to owning only 1 gun. I kept it under my mattress. It was a Taurus 38sp. I took it from my mattress and looked at it for awhile, deciding it was too big to conceal. I went online and searched for "small revolvers". I was intrigued by the NAA mini 22lr revolver.
I ordered one and had it shipped to the lgs. When I picked it up, I asked the guy for some ammo so I could try it out and he told me he didn't have any. I was like, seriously? How can a gun shop be out of the most common caliber of ammo. I didn't ask him that because I didn't want to be rude, so I went home and made some calls to other places. Everybody was out! Luckily I still had about 100 rounds in a drawer somewhere so I didn't panick.
Fast forward to present day, I now have 12 guns, 4 of them are rifles. I have about 6,000 rnds of 22lr,
400 rnds of 38sp. 1600 rnds of 9mm. 1100 rnds of 45acp. 1400 223. Of course, this changes all the time.
What stocking levels do you guys typically have on hand?

I keep 5,000 rounds for each caliber of .223, .40, .380 on hand. I have about 3,800 rounds of 22lr but it's still hard to find locally.

I was in my local cabelas last week and they had a good selection ranging from bulk to cci to the very good and expensive stuff.I splurged on a brick of mid range sv.

I've seen more and more 22 online. I have a pretty good stock and only buy when I see brands I like now. If you sign up for the Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 (In Stock ammo thread) you will get emails when links are online. Yes, the price has gone up and you will hear many people say "I only buy when it's 5 cents a round, etc." But there is plenty out there, and while they are complaining waiting for the price to come down I'm out shooting. :D

I have 12k stocked away. Was lucky during the main sandyhook panic that I was able to score 4 of the 2,100 round federal ammo cans from Cabela's.

I used to shoot a ton of 22, but honestly, it just isn't fun anymore. Around here it isn't available for less than rape prices. We have a Gander and Sportsman's Warehouse an hour away, but unless I'm going to that City (which is usually never) I don't go there but they usually have a few bulk packs and a couple of cci mini mags.

Dick's and Walmart are the only "big" stores in my city. I have only seen 22 in the three walmart's locally a handfull of times since Sandyhook.

Dick's lately has been getting a steady supply of Remington ****. Last week they had a shipment of Automatch so I picked one up.

I miss the 525 pack's of federal from Cabelas or the 550 pack from Walmart.

22LR at $0.10+ per round is not overly exciting to me though it will be the norm.

now this is a bad question :) if you really state how much ammo you have they jump on and start labeling you a hoarder , but then I have broad shoulders and it took me 3 years to build this up so
22LR 20,000+ sell some to others that can not find any
22 Mag 1500
17 Hmr 3000+
17Mh2 3000
9MM 5000
380LCP 500
22-250 400
6.5 CM 500
.223/5.56 north of 3000
.243 200
8mm 200

I just picked up a case (5k rounds) about 2 weeks ago for ~$0.08 per round. Besides that, I have maybe about 5k of other 22lr.

Probably 500+ rounds of .223. 300 rounds of 300 blackload (loaded) and another 200 not loaded. 1500 rounds of 9mm (with another 1200 set to be reloaded and 3k on the way).

I had enough on hand to support my .22 revolver and rifle, my Makarov, Nagant revolver, .357, .380 and .38 specials' appetites, but lost it all in a freak canoe accident....time to shop again....

I stock primers and powders for my centerfire. 22 LR I have a "healthy" stock but always add to it whenever I see a good price, kind of short on 17 hmr though.

I'm getting there. The storeroom is almost full.
