22 Magnum

As everyone knows, every gun chambered for a cartridge is supposed to work with that cartridge regardless of the loading!

About 40 years ago, Federal released product # 757, 22 Magnum, 50 grain HP. This was engineered specifically for revolvers. Over the years it has been produced with different labels but has been the same good load for handguns. I have boxes of different ages with Blue, Red, and Gold Medal labels; but all are product #757 .(The barcode is totally different for each label!)

My brother bought a Rugar Convertible Single Six and had accuracy problems with 37 and 40 grain Winchester and Remington ammo hitting squirrels at normal distances. I gave him a box of the Fed 50 grain HP "757", and the squirrels were no longer safe!

I haven't had a convertible single action since I sold my Colt New Frontier in the early 80's. I have had a High Standard 22 Mag & two Davis 22 Mag derringers for all these years, and I get respectable 4 shot groups at 25 yards. Usually 2" or less (each barrel fired 2 times).

I had a very early model Savage/ Stevens model 24, 22 mag. over 20 gauge That I couldn't get good (under 4" @ 100 yards) with any ammo! Only Savage I've owned that didn't shoot well with any ammo! The previous owner told me later, that's why he sold it to me. (Former B-I-L)
