How much ammo do you guys keep around?

FIRST RULE OF THE AMMO HOARD....IS DON'T TALK ABOUT THE AMMO HOARD:cool:

My bride found herself looking around in the basement, and discovered what she determined was an adequate supply of ammunition. She didn't find all of it.
She was wrong too.....

Tell her it was "job related" and all this ammo PLUS more could be the difference in you making that critical shot when..and if ever needed. Its all about your saftey.. just ask..dont you care about my safety honey? lol

I like to have enough to go to the range and shoot as much as I want and not have to worry about it. A lot of people think "There goes a dollar" every time they pull the trigger and I think that takes the fun out of shooting. My family and extended family all shoot too and we could easily go through my entire stash in a weekend. Except maybe the pellets.

I try to keep about 2,000 rounds of .22LR, 300rds .45, 300rds .40, and about 100-200rds .380 and 150 12 ga.

Next guns are going to be another .40 a 9mm a .223 and a 5.7x28mm :)

I seem to have a problem keeping .22 rounds around. Every time I stock up a little it just disappears. One of the few down sides to the 15-22! HAHA

500 to 1000 rounds for each caliber I own, except 22LR usually 3-5K.
.22LR, 32ACP, .380, .38, 9mm, 38 Super, .40, 10mm, 44 special, .44 mag., 45 ACP, .223, 30-06, 12 ga.

if you know how much you have then you dont have enough...period:D

Currently in 22lr, I have some 30K rounds. I purchased 5k round cases of 40 gr. Blazer from Paul's Army Navy when prices were $159.00/case. They actually discounted the said a bit for inventory reduction, as they noted. Prior to that, I also bought a bunch of 40 gr. CCI Mini Mags from Midsouth Shooters for $5.69/100 rounds. I go through some 1k to 2k of 22lr a week. So, my stash will not last very long.

I started stocking up when there was a strong and impending threat on the future ability to purchase ammo in California.

My handgun calibers are stocked up. My centerfire rifle calibers are stocked up, as well. My last purchase of plinking .223 ammo in 55 gr. and 62 gr. was 2 cases of each.

I am retiring, next April, and I expect that I will be shooting much more than I am now. I need to learn and start reloading.

I suddenly have a deep and urgent need to go buy some more... I seem to be building up a collection of Cabela's free dry boxes... i'll have to find more uses for them!

I would be very careful broadcasting information of this nature. Some towns and states have storage quanity limits and you could be opening yourself up for a problem. I am not one of those that believe that the "jack booted" whatevers are lurking around every corner, but this is an open forum and you never know who is reading this information. FWIW :D

To that point, I recently read a story about some hoard of ammo they confiscated in MA. He had at least 2000 rounds!!!

I am pretty sure that no jury would convict me around here. Laugh at me for not having enough ammo maybe, but no conviction.

Supplies and inventory

I'll be 63 in December. I believe that the current inventory of ammo: 22 LR, 9 mm, 30 Herrett, 38 spl, 357 mag, 40 S&W, 44 mag, 45 acp, 223 Rem, 25-06, 308, 30-06, 7 mm Rem mag, and 45-70 is sufficient to last until I hit 70. At that time I will have a living estate sale to liquidate all the center fire weapons that I don't want or can't shoot. My wife and I will then take the vacation of the month until the money is gone. By 72 I plan on being penniless, almost defenseless, and have the memories of a lifetime.

In the event of ammo shortages, there are enough components to allow me to shoot enthusiastically until I can't run a Dillion 550. There is 18 gallons of 45 acp, 5 gallons of 40 S&W, 3 gallons of 9 mm, 1 gallon of 30 Herrett, and 3 gallons of 30-06 to reload if I have bad weather and can't get to the range. :D

What shortage?

I don't consider myself a "hoarder, but I like to have enough ammo around to shoot as much as I like, even if my local dealers are out for a few months (or so). If I see a good deal, I'll buy it and stick it in my stash. I don't clear the shelves; I'll just buy a box or two or four.

This is made easier by the fact that I limit myself to a very few calibers. The overwhelming majority of my firearms are chambered for .22LR or .38 Special.

A lot. My wife just rolls her eyes and sighs every time I add another Cabela's dry box to my basement ammo storage area.

I have enough .22 ammo to shoot one round every hour for three years. I have so much .223 that I recently purchased a significant number of stripper clips to load up, and ran out of clips before running out of ammo. I have enough .45 ACP to save Private Ryan - and all of his brothers, and their friends.

Ammo

You can never have too much ammo! As one poster stated, it only goes one way......up. It doesn't go bad, doesn't take up too much room and for some, it's always in demand. Not gloom and doom but many think it may some day be used as currency. Those raised during the depression down south always kept a supply on hand "just in case". Right now I think I have about 3000 rounds in various calibers and I try to keep about that number on hand. But that's just me.
