How much for a Model 19?

How much would, say, a pinned & recessed S&W Model 19, blued with a 4 inch barrel with factory target grips (or rubber pachmyer grips) with a little holster wear go for today?

Gunbroker is throwing around prices like $800-1000. That seems a little high to me unless it's like new in box.

I'm kind of looking around for one that can be in said condition as a possible new carry gun/shooter.

I think you are high for a four inch 19-4 or earlier. I got a 2.5 19-5 shooter for $500 on GB. Do you need a box if you are going to carry it? And hopefully you will carry everyday.

GB handgun prices are a little high lately. Around here, you can buy a nice Model 19, 4 inch blue for about $600, when you can find one in decent condition.

They are in the neighborhood of $600-650 at my LGS's. I think that is about right for 19-3 / 19-4 in excellent condition with original grips.

Last one I bought was about 4 years ago. A M19-3. It has a 4" barrel, shows holster wear, and had incorrect target stocks, but shoots very well. I paid $375 for it after a bit of good natured haggling.:D
I think you should be able to find a decent one for under $500.

I'd say $500-600 is fair. The snub nose model 19's go for a bit more, around $650-700. Gunbroker has gone way over normal prices and is not a very good indicator, especially considering you add shipping and FFL fees on top of sale price. Just check the ridiculous prices ammo goes for on that site.

Around here, $550-600 for starters, add $50 or so for factory target grips, $100 or more for target options. These have become very desirable guns. I bought one from a place in Maine a couple of years ago, $495, 90+%, all target options, factory targets, spare factory rubber grips, box, papers, tools for $495. A fluke. Never find one like that again, I can promise. Of course, I can't imagine two markets more unlike than the Baltimore-DC area and backwoods Louisiana.

I have been on the look-out for a nice M19 in 4" or even 6". The prices are all over the place on GB. If you get a non reserve auction, a shooter can come in around $500 or more. I have been following several for a while now just to see what happens and it seems a vast majority are not sold in auction because the reserves are really high. People have high expectations for what they should bring but most aren't. The LNIB and NIB models are going for around $800 or so.

If I find one in 95%+/- in the $500 range I'll buy it. Don't think that will happen any time soon where I shop though. . . . . The several I have were in the $500 range but all at least three years ago.

I recently acquired a 19-3 with 4" barrel, Pachmayr grips for $425 (Cdn)up here north of border. Gun is in perfect condition. Seller asked me to give him first right of refusal if I decided to sell someday which, ain't gonna happen.

Forget Gunbroker. There's an occasional reasonable buy, but not very often. Check your local pawn shops, want ads and online listings like backpage.com. I bought two 19-3s in the last 8 months, a 4" (FTF) for $400 and a 6" (Pawn shop) for $399 + tax. So I would say that anything over $500 had better be NIB.

As usual, search for completed sales, not asking prices, on GB...someone who has a lot of extra money may click the Buy on a $1000 model 19-3 or later in good condition, but that is not typical.

There are good deals on G.B. to be had! The key factor is that you have to be patient and do your homework.
A model 36 w/tools, unfired in box just sold for $905. I bought 1 very nice no box or tools for $369. Just bought a 14-3 shipped for $410, insured also. Not perfect but close.
I realize that those are not 19's. I have never owned 1 or a 66.
I really enjoy the HUNT when looking for a gun. Happy to finally get it, but let down in a way. Good Luck! Bob

While there is an occasional good deal to be had on Gunbroker, I would suggest making a habit of frequenting your local gun shops and see what turns up. Periodically I make the rounds of the local dealers that tend to have the type of guns I am interested in at reasonable prices. While I don't get lucky all the time, I have gotten some very good deals just by being in the right place at the right time.

I managed to pick up a LNIB 19-2 for $650 OTD a few months ago at one of my favorite shops, so there are deals to be had. Be prepared to buy it on the spot however, because if it is a good deal, it probably won't be there when you go back.

All the gun shops around here must know about GB. Prices are right up there in the stratosphere. Of course, if you go to trade something in, they pull out the 5 year old, dog eared copy of the Blue Book to use as a value reference. The customer gets screwed on both ends.

Simple answer to your question, in my area, if you find a M19 that is P&R and does not look as though it was tied behind a truck for a day, it will bring $575 to $650. The condition of the M19 will determine the price someone is willing to pay.

That one is very, very nice. Thanks for the pic!
FWIW, I have a 14-2 with a nearby serial number and it shipped in 1967. I suspect your 19-2 came out of the factory that year also.
