The cheapest I can find quality ammunition (5.56) is @ .50 per rd.

Most expensive I see is @ $1.25-$1.50 per rd.

So where do you guys draw the line on costs??

And after the next gun tragedy, you think it will go up again??

If I gotta pay $1.25-$1.50 per round, I'm going to be shooting my 15/22 lots more and even .22LR is getting outrageous at some places.

The cheapest 223 i've found is 50cents, too. I've been shooting only 22 ammo lately. Bought a 22 revolver, 15-22, ar-15 conversion bolt to 22, all recently so it's alot of fun even though it's just a 22 round.

I've been in stores that only have 1000rd 556 in a case for sale and they wanted $1100! Crazy!

I suppose I am a bit spoiled with MidwayUSA, since their customer pickup door is 8 minutes from my driveway.

In most cases, I never even come close to paying 50/round of 5.56 or .223. Well, maybe here and there, but certainly not on a regular basis. Even during the height of the ammo crisis. To be sure, it's been a challenge to find deals, even in bulk, but they're out there.

Heck, I have 1000 rounds of Brown Bear .223 on order for .21/round and 1000 rounds of Xtac 5.56 ammo for 35/round. Both from the Sportsman's Guide.

It's out there folks, just be patient and order it when you find it even if you have to wait months to get it. It's worth the wait to get it cheap.

Provided we don't have another event, ammo will come back down to within 20% of where it was. I've bought a few deals I've run across, but I'm waiting on the supply to catch up for the most part.

That said, I already have plenty of ammo.

at the moment, can't find 5.56 for less than .50 a pop. But if you don't mind .223 then you can find them for much less. .50 a round for practice ammo is my limit either way.

I pay a bit more sometimes for good varmint rounds. I know it's not necessary but I do like 3600 fps stuff sometimes.

You can order 100 rounds of "Herters" which is just repackaged Tula from Cabelas for ~$0.38/round INCLUDING shipping. They've had this in stock regularly the last 6 weeks or so.

Just food for thought ....

As a note I only purchase and store what I will shoot in a year's time. I don't buy any more due to storage and safety issues.

Insurance companies are beginning to raise people's homeowners insurance premiums if they find the owner of the policy to be 'hoarding' ammo, powder, and reloading components. There are laws that dictate how much ammo and/or powder can be safely stored in any one location.

Just for the record.

How I know this? I have both HAZMAT and Mine Blasting Certifications.

Good point.

That's another way you know you have too much ammo.

You come home and find a red tag on the door declaring your house a HAZMAT site.

No one knows what is in that other gun safe, lol.

Plus i dont see them even checking without a warrant. And i really dont see a judge signing a warrant going on someone "thinking" u may have too much ammo in ur house.

Good luck to them thats all i can say.

Too much ammo or too much gun safe..........Nope

I sold my .458 Lott rifle when ammo got to around $7.00 per round. Ten boxes of ammo was worth more than the rifle.

I don't believe an insurance rep needs a warrant, and yes they have the right to inspect at any time. Refuse them and you might find yourself without coverage...;)

I guess there is a first time for everything. But ive personally never had it happen in all my years of living. Although they did inspect the outside of my house when i first put insurance on it way back when. I dont recall them asking to come inside and check.

But i guess if it ever boiled down to it. I dont mind finding another insurance company. But as stated, ive never had it happen and i dont recall ever hearing of it happen by any of my neighbors, relatives or friends.

Maybe the States differ.

I've been finding PMC .223 bronze for $8 a box lately. That's the cheapest brass ammo I have been able to find. I don't mind shooting at that price. Was just a local gun show this weekend and saw lots of cases of 1000rds for $450. Wolf, Tul and other garbage ammo was around $350 per 1000.

As to how much is too much?? Is that really a question?

This is probably not a real worry unless you have a fire and they find out about it during the cleanup.

Insurance agents want your business and don't go out of their way to find reasons to dump you.

They do make weird mistakes.

One year my fire policy went way up and I asked why.

They told me our house was too far from a fire hydrant.

I pointed out there was a hydrant in the front yard, and I would know as I had to mow around it every week.

You can buy that TulAmmo .223 junk at WalMart for $.27/round when they have it, they also regularly get federal for .34/rd which is brass. They have a 3 box limit which sucks, but it's there sometimes
