I don't understand why rimfire revolvers lead so much more than other calibers. Perhaps someone can explain that. But that being the case, how much lead build up around the base of the forcing cone is too much and should be fixed? I get quite a bit after 200-300 rounds.

Very soft bullets? I use picks a dentist gave me to scrape the lead off.

I think the cheap soft lead used in 22LR's causes the heavy leading. Actually after years of casting and shooting lead bullets, I now only load jacketed bullets to avoid leading issues. I don't shoot the heavy volume I used to before my family came along, so the cost isn't that big of a deal like it used to be.

What you're seeing is the result of soft lead and rather waxy outside lubrication used on most .22 ammo. Can usually be removed with a toothpick. It doesn't really get to be too much unless it builds up enough to interfere with cylinder rotation.
