How often do you clean

I thoroughly clean my 686plus revolver every time I use it. Also I do the same with my 2 Glocks. My question to the Forum is does evryone clean their Revolvers & Pistols after each use??
If so why? If not Why?

It depends. If I take Revolver "A" out on Saturday and shoot it, but know I'm going to take it back out the following day, Sunday, then no, I'm not going to clean it when I get home from the range on Saturday. If I take that same Revolver "A" out on Saturday and shoot it with no intention of returning to the range anytime soon; then yes, I'll clean it when I get back from the range on Saturday.

Yes, I clean every time I use my guns. I only go to the range, at most, once per week and I only take a maximum of 3 guns. I look at the cleaning process as my "therapy". I kind of enjoy it. Putting away a "dirty" gun will cause me to lose sleep.

The only guns I clean every time i take them to the range are the dedicated self defense guns. Everything gets cleaned at the end of the season. Gives me something to do when I tire of reloading and there is three foot of snow on the ground.

No but I'll clean eventually. Sometimes the same day sometimes in a few months. These guns aren't hand built with tight tolerances...at least not the Glocks. Theyre fine with a little bit of carbon. In fact I despise doing anything other than shooting. Don't even like swapping parts. A gun that HAS to be cleaned often I loose interest in and it gets sold.

I clean shotguns if they get wet or muddy, otherwise before and after hunting season (even those i shoot clays with).

Rifles, about once a year.

Handguns, as needed - a couple times a year for those I shoot a lot.

I wipe them all down with a rag and a few drops of Balistol after I use them.

I also wax them periodically.

Clean my old 65-3 after shooting but don't spend a lot time using FMJ. I finally have the cylinder cleaned out enough so .357 casings don't stick

I'm doing my best to clean up after each outing however it can be postponed for a day or two. I don't do it because my guns "need it" (I've never had a failure due to a dirty gun even for 22 semi-autos) it just makes me feel good

My father was an old school U.S. Army sergeant. He had the same philosophy as your dad. Putting a dirty gun away was a sure way to get to go on a "wailing expedition". I saw my dad direct soldiers to polish the breech blocks on 105MM howitzer with Brasso, tooth brushes and cleaning cloths. Interestingly, my cleaning schedule mirrors yours. I don't care if it is a Glock or a fine shotgun. The drill is the same.

Rifles with 1/2 MOA accuracy get cleaned using benchrest methods at least every 100 rounds, some every 50 rounds unless the prairie dog shooting is too good to stop.

Run of the mill centerfire hunting rifles a couple times a year.

My handguns get the least attention--exteriors wiped down with Ballistol or TSI 301 and then back into the humidity controlled safes. Full cleaning/scrubbing a couple times a year, some of the more often used semi-autos more often, but not much. I don't shoot naked lead out of my revolvers anymore--switched to plated or epoxy coated bullets so I'm not as worried about leading these days.

Overall I find cleaning tedious and boring and don't have the time for cleaning after every outing.

Nobody truly cares about anyone elses cleaning regimen. Do whatever you feel like doing.
Same day cleaning and polishing if near the campfire. Along with sharpening my knives.
If i go home they go in the safe dirty and the honey do list gets done first

I shoot a real clean load in my revolver using V V N320 and coated bullets. I clean about every 1000 rounds.

For my .22s I clean after ever range session, about 500 rounds.

Rifles I clean as soon as I get home from the range.

I also occasionally only brush my teeth for 145 seconds vs. the recommended 180.

Seriously, go hang out on Glocktalk--not unusual for users over there to only clean after 1,000 rounds or more, although there are plenty of "If I look at it I clean it" folks over there too.

I admire the diligence with which many of you maintain your weapons. I will rationalize my slovenly ways by wondering if all that cleaning and disassembly will cause more wear and tear than makes sense given modern lubricants and newer cleaner burning powders....

Well, it goes to ethnicity: We are both part Irish and part Scandinavian, so Irish dusting will suffice for a while (just lift the object on the table and blow the dust somewhere else.) But, after a while the Scan heritage starts to get edgy, so it's time for real cleaning. It seems to be a good balance!

If it's good enough for him then who am I to
Argue or dismiss his advice! Especially one's

I used to clean after every range trip but now it's when I feel like it. Reason, just don't see the need and as I get older the less anal I am about my guns being pristine.

With that being said I usually won't go more that 3 or 4 range trips without a cleaning.

I got into the habit long ago to clean my gun(s) right after using them.
Creature of habit, but I think it's a good one.
