I have a S&W Model 36, Serial # J847559. Can anyone tell me when it was manufactured? I would also like to know how how I go about obtaining a letter from S&W telling what their records show about this firearm?

The serial number suggests a 1981 production date.

J847559 is 1981, they made a bunch of them that year. Plenty of info here about a factory letter.
