Ok, let me qualify this with this is my first Smith and Wesson. I have a 386 Sc/S all factory. I am wanting to change out the grips. I can't find a screw that holds the stock grips on. Is there one? It has a lanyard on the bottom but nothing else. How are the grips held in place? All the diagrams and vidio's Ive found show screws being removed (other models)
Thanks for the help.

A black polymer wedge should be somewhere in the case, along with instructions for how to use it. Basically, you need to use the wedge to pry the rear of the grip from the frame, enough so that it clears the roll pin that holds it in place. I have a 386 Sc/S, too, and changed the grips the other day. Yeah, it was a pain.

If you cannot find the wedge, you can use a stiff plastic sheet, such as a credit card, on both sides.

Thanks. There is no wedge or intructions as such. I didn't want to start prying if it wasn't how it was supposed to work. Will the stock grips go back on ok?

To remove Hogue Bantam rubber grips...a quote from their website...

"Spread grip halves at bottom using bantam tool. If not available, use two plastic credit cards per side to spread grip sides slightly. This will release grip from stock-pin allowing grip to slide off revolver frame."

I would not use any credit card you expect to use later for its intended purpose as the procedure described can and does on occasion crack the credit card.
