I have a Bore Snake that I have used at times to clean my S&W 15T 5.56/223 rifle. After a trip to the range yesterday I was using it to dry the Hoppies from the bore so that I may inspect it and I noticed how dirty the snake was. There is no way I was going to put a loose snake in our new washer as it would probably come out with more knots than some of my shirts. I ask my wife if she had one of those little bags women place lacy items or whatever in and she said no.
"She said, place the snake into a sock!" Works great, both for the wash and the drying!

I put them in old socks. Tie knots in them. Washes them clean.

Good tip on the washer in a sock.

I usually just add 2" of hot water to the kitchen sink with some dish liquid and soak 'em in a tangled greasy disgusting mess.
Brake cleaner works on sinks, right? :D

Squirt some Shout on it and hang it in a good rain. The sun eventually comes out and dries it.

The only time I'll use a Bore Snake is after a Hunt when I am hunting again the following day. When they get dirty I simply toss them and get a new one. I do not like putting gun solvents, oils, lead, powder residue etc. in a washing machine we use for clothing. The way I use them, they last a long time - after a few years I don't mind spending a few bucks on a new one.

I use a little liquid detergent in a bucket of warm water, agitate, rinse, and repeat until the water stays clean; then, squeeze out excess water, and hang them outside to dry.
