Kevlar chaps, in my opinion, are a must. (Not that I use a chainsaw myself, but I gave some kevlar chaps to a pal some years ago who decided he knew how to use one after a long career as a desk jockey.)

That first video is impressive!

Man, that second video.... Great example of “A man’s got to know his limitations...”

I learned the proper way to use a chainsaw and how to fell trees at an early age, and safety equipment was never an option. Very few things can do more damage to yourself in less time than a chainsaw. It is almost hard to believe that anyone can buy one and use it without some serious instruction...there are a thousand things that can go wrong, and even a small tree can kill you. As for those backyard warriors cutting from a ladder with shorts and tennis shoes on....Darwin will prevail, I guess.

Upsets me when I see someone doing something foolish.
I grew up running saws, and was a "sawyer" when at Texas A&M.
This photo shows me a tree TOO CLOSE to the house, and only a PRO with lots of experience should drop this tree.
1. send a sawyer up into the tree and bring down branches on a rope sling.
Have a pull rope attached high up and to a pull truck headed away.
Walkie talkie for communication.
An experienced tree removal company faces this type of tree removal all the time.

My favorite chainsaw movie was based on Wilbur Smith's book,"The Train From Katanga."

I think the US film title was "Africa Ablaze" and maybe another title, too. "Dark of the Sun"? It starred Rod Taylor and Yvette Mimieux.

The villain chased the hero with a chainsaw. Ads in the newspaper and magazines showed the chainsaw event.

I really liked the book and the movie.

In the book, Smith wrote of the bad guy, "It was the measure of Wally Hendry that he had been in the Congo for six months and spoke not a word of French."

Several of his books have become movies.
