sorry if this has been asked, I searched but came up empty. I also could not find an answer in the smithing FAQs .....

how do I found out what size hollow ground screwdriver I should use for my 12-4? Im ordering a Screwdriver Bit S&W Rebound Slide Spring from Midway and figured I may as well check on a perfectly fitting screwdriver as well.

thanks !!

With the Brownell's set, if you damage a bit, you can easily replace it for 3.00, and they have a bit for just about every type of screw, torx head, hex, European thin slot, etc.

A Screw Driver for an S&W

I have not bought an S&W since the 80's.
It was true that the "round" screw driver did not fit the screws.

The small "#1" screw driver you might find at an ELECTRONICS STORE works well on all my S&W's.

I find that no matter how many or what screwdriver sets I have the one I need is not where I need it. For precision, single use applications, I get one that is slightly oversize and tune it on a grinder.

Thus far, I have yet to find a single set that fits my J-frame and L-frame. I usually find something in my roll-away that covers that one bit that's never included in those so-called S&W driver sets.

+1 on that!

I like the Brownells screwdrivers, you can also grind the bits to make them fit if you don't find one that fits just right. I would suggest one of their magna bit sets plus the bit set for S&W. FYI when I broke one bit (not on a Smith) Brownells replaced it at no charge. Screwdrivers are like salt and vinegar potato chips, you can never have to many:)
