I have obtain a (appears to be) unfired in silver box Mod39-2 nickel and noticed faint marks on the left side of the slide that looks like the pistol "rubbed" during transport or shipping. They are light but visible and would like to buff/polish these out to restore to original (or like) condition. Would appreciate any suggestions/product recommendations from those better versed in this type of procedure, thanks in advance.

Welcome! Many here recommend a light abrasive (Flitz is a good one) and using very light pressure on the marks. Go slowly, it is easier to take too little of the marks off and repeat than to put more plating back on.

Flitz, a soft cloth, and light, finger pressure. Polish gently until the marks fade. As a preservative, I'd recommend using Renaissance Wax.
