So last Saturdays match was decision time for me. I don't usually shoot 2nd gun. But what the heck. Thought I would try my hand in SSP.

So with only 3 choices in the safe, I dug out my trusty SW9VE.
Thats right...a Sigma. The other choice was my 6906. Nah...lets run the gun with the worst internet reputation. Just for fun.

So I get through the morning shoot in SSR and after lunch we head out for the afternoon session. Good stages and not alot of crazy or bizzare stuff setup. And I shot well in the morning.

A couple of the guys thought I was running a SD9VE. In a crowd of all Glocks and M&P's I stuck out like a sore thumb..lol. Until the scoring started.

Down 1, down 0, down 0...ect, ect.

Funny how no one thought it was a joke anymore when the scores were tallyed up at the end.

2nd overall in SSP out of 33 shooters with only 24 points down.:D

I've been grinning all weekend.
Not bad for a $269 gun that everybody hates.

I have to admit, in the last 2 years of ownership of the SW9VE I have put several thousand rounds downrange. I shoot it very well.

I bought it cheap, the original owner only put one mag through it and blamed the gun for it's inaccuraccy. I've never had a problem with it and the trigger got better after about 500 rounds down the pipe.

Maybe it will be a regular in my range bag now on match days.

Back in 1993 when I went through the Police Academy non of the students with Sigmas made it through the class with them. Everyone of them was replaced with something else. Mainly Glocks.
I surely hope that the quality has improved over the older ones.
Good shooting by the way.

I campaigned the SD9. Since that was my carry gun, it made sense. If you gave me something from the Performance Center I doubt I would do much better at IDPA.

It is a fine pistol.

Other odd handguns to use at an IDPA match

A while back I shot a 1920 commercial luger in my regular monthly IDPA match. I had a blast and did pretty well.

Did the same with a .38 ACP (not .380!) Colt 1900 converted into a 1902. Had to brief the ROs beforehand as it has neither safety nor slide holdopen! But it fits "the box" like it was designed for it. It had to be shared about with some of the ROs after I did my runs. They were quite impressed with it's performance. Thing runs amazingly well. Points well. Trigger like the proverbial glass rod. Sights are teeny, though, but it just makes you pay attention.

If you can convince the match directors to let you slide under the power factor, the WWII Enfield .380/200 is fun and surprisingly effective. You can use K frame speed loaders to boot!

Back when I was shooting IDPA, I shot few matches with a stripper clip loaded, Model 1912 Steyr-Hahn, a Chinese Tok bring back (no manual safety), and a Webley Mark VI in .45 Colt. I didn't win much, but I wasn't last, either. And the Tok on a night course puts out a four foot tongue of fire that will wake a few people up. Of course, the guns did get a bit of attention after the match.

Got a pair of SW40F/s in the early '90s when everybody was trashing them. Paid dirt for them to an unsatisfied owner.
Fast forward, I put Apex trigger in them and they are fine. As I get the money I'll buy .357Sig barrels for at least one.
