Well, they are back. I killed or trapped about a dozen a couple of years ago and now I have them back in my pond. Besides the traps at their hole entrances, does anyone have any other tips on killing these critters.
Yes, I sit at sunrise and dawn with my 22 rifle sometimes.

Muskrats can cause a lot of pond levee damage in a short time. You are on the right track, by trapping. Use the square killer traps set underwater in their hole or runs. It is the best way, to eradicate them. I have trapped hundreds, years ago, I don't think technique has changed much. It might be more fun to shoot one, but trapping is safer and eventually you will win. Mikey

Have you tried underwater explosives or high voltage current? Hey, it works for fishing.

What? No recipes? Thanks. You guys never let me down, at least I got one serious answer.
Actually one more than I expected.

Muskrat Love
Muskrat, muskrat candlelight
Doin the town and doin it right
In the evenin
Its pretty pleasin

Muskrat susie, muskrat sam
Do the jitterbug out in muskrat land
And they shimmy
And sammys so skinny

And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed
Singin and jingin the jango
Floatin like the heavens above
It looks like muskrat love

Nibbling on bacon, chewin on cheese
Sammy says to susie honey, would you please be my missus?
And she say yes
With her kisses

And now hes ticklin her fancy
Rubbin her toes
Muzzle to muzzle, now anything goes
As they wriggle, and sue starts to giggle

And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed
Singin and jingin the jango
Floatin like the heavens above
It looks like muskrat love

La da da da da ...

My answer has always been the .22, not much for trapping!

We always cooked them just like groundhogs. In a roast with veggies, just make sure your roasting pan has one of those built in grates. Maybe that's actually a brazing pan, not up on my kitchenware terminology.

Battled beavers for years no muskrats. I have trapped 25-50 through the years with the square drown type traps.

Last sping ended up with a 6' gator in my 5 acre lake and he sure did his part. Did cut me out of swiming in the lake, so oh well

110 conibear traps over the hole or a #0 or 1 jump on a wire with 1 way slide. Muskrat are game animals and you may want to talk to you wildlife management organization and see what they can do for you
