This actually happened a few years ago and just now getting around to admit it to the public.

I had bought 2 model 586's that were twins. Both 6" shooters. For some stupid reason, I guess I thought I was Wyatt Earp and was standing in front of my bedroom mirror with one in each hand pointing toward the mirror. I decided to pull the trigger on both of them and forgot that one was loaded with 158gr 357 hollowpoints.
When I cleaned my pants and got through thanking God I wasn't hurt, I saw what had happened.

The first picture shows where the bullet went through the facing on the mirror. The 2nd picture shows where the bullet came through the wall in the hall bathroom on the other side of the bedroom wall. The 3rd picture shows what a 357 hollowpoint will do to a sink and the last picture shows what a 158gr 357 magnum hollowpoint looks like after doing this. It was laying in the bathroom floor. There are still tiny pieces of the sink embedded in the wall.

And no, I haven't done it again. Other than that, in 50 years, the only time I have ever had an accidental discharge was when I was 12 years old and holding a model 10 in my right hand with the gun resting in my left hand with the end of the barrel pressing against my thumb. The gun went off and put a very clean hole through the center of my left thumb and, Thank you Lord, I did not lose use of my thumb. But, that is a story for another day.

You killed it good. Many years ago when I was young and known to party a little bit, a buddy and I were having a good time at his place when next thing I know he killed his TV with one shot.
Never did figure out exactly how that happened but was grateful it was the TV, as I was sitting next to him on the couch. Did impress upon me that partying and loaded guns in combination are never a good idea.
Glad that your episode resulted in the only thing hurt or killed was the sink.

I've known more than a few men whom I consider safe, intelligent shooters. Every one of them has had an accidental/inadvertent/negligent discharge. (Call it what you will.) If you've been around guns for forty or fifty years, and actually used them, in my experience you're exceptional if you haven't. Luckily, among my friends (and myself), none of us has caused anything but property damage, fright, and some hearing loss.

Thank God no one was hurt in your mirror incident. BTW, there must be something about mirrors and .357s. I have a friend who did almost the same thing, only in his case there was less collateral damage, though he did nearly cause a fire, too. (Smoldering rug, which unceremoniously was thrown out the front door. :D) A 2-1/2" Combat Magnum with firewalled handload of #2400 or H110. Exciting! And loud. ;)

Don't work for the FBI but almost did a backflip when it went off. What was amazing was that for a split second, I thought " Did that gun just go off?". Maybe it was just shock but actually didn't seem that loud. My next door neighbor who is about 50 feet from me was in his yard and never heard a thing.

One of the deputy sheriffs who introduced me to center fire pistols was "dry" firing in his room where we were staying for our project. He quietly paid Days Inn for a new TV to replace the one he shot. He tried to finesse it, but after a while the story got out. We never let him forget that one.
There's something to be said for brick walls. They will usually contain foolishness.

He must have been mowing the grass.

I remember reading an account of Jeff Cooper who practiced drawing one afternoon and put a bullet through his gas meter. As a Meterman for a gas utility this interested me. He said as he waited through the fire dept and response team that showed up and all the BS questions, the gas man finally asked him " So why did you shoot the meter?" His classic response was "That's what I was aiming at when I pulled the trigger".
Glad nothing irreplaceable was damaged.

It can happen to anyone. My dad was a firearms instructor and still managed to shoot me in the leg with a .270!! I've been around firearms all my 42 years of life and have had my screw up too. Darn near killed the cat, he won't stay in the same room now if the safe is open.

...a thick backdrop to shoot some Speer Plastic bullets in the house. Those things are a lot more potent than they look because when I took away the back drop my wall board was marred up pretty bad.

Some of those training rounds are flat out deadly. A couple of people have tried to use a shed as a backstop for that German 7.62x51mm blue plastic stuff for the HK G-3. Improved the ventilation no end.
