The #307 clamps to the barrel and uses the rear sight screw.

Exactly how does one install it with front "clamp" system?

I see no system for side-to-side tension on the clamp itself.

It's going on a 686, so I'm not concerned about marring a blued finish, and it's a shooter grade gun anyway.

thanks

Your observation is correct, the clamp itself has no side-to-side tension adjustment. The clamp slides over the frame from the front and the upward tension of the large screw draws it tightly against the frame.
I have a few of the 307's on K-frames and they work great but do mar the finish a bit where the clamp tightens up. I have never tried one on an L-frame so don't know if there are any dimensional issues or not.
There is also an N-frame sized version and I simply don't know where the L-frame fits in the dimensional progression.

Thank you very much.

Weaver data says it's applicable to the K and L frames.

That's exactly the information I need.

This Forum is a great resource.

I realise this is an old thread - but it has most of the info i need as i'm putting one of these on a Model 17 soon.

my additional question is -To prevent any marring of the frame of the firearm, could i use a little bit of something to place between the clamp arms and the frame to "soften" the contact - i.e. don't have metal to metal contact ? I realise that it will need to be durable and fairly thin? (a little bit of fabric?
Once fitted does the clamp have a tendency to vibrate or move - increasing the risk of marring?
