How to polish nickel-plated 29-2?

Flitz is great. So is Mothers Mag Polish. The secret is to use your bare finger to apply, so you don't get carried away. They both contain abrasives, and you can damage the nickel. Use a microfiber, soft flannel, or the inside of an old sweatshirt.

After polishing, apply some Renaissance, or Johnson's Paste Wax. The wax helps protect the finish, and inhibits oxidation.

I and many other readers of this post would like to see some of these all shined up, that is if any of you guys have one to show.

Below is a link to a recent polishing thread, which will also apply to nickle.

The advice I give in the other thread about working the hardest
areas first especially applies to a plated surface, like nickle.

Some of the hardest drum related items I've worked have been nickle,
sometimes it cleans up quickly, other times it can be a real bugger to work.

Here's the link.......

I have better results with Flitz, but Mothers Mag Polish is good as well. I apply the Flitz with a Q-Tip, but regardless of how it is put on, use a soft cloth, rub and turn the cloth frequently. Never use a buffer, and only moderate pressure with the fingers. Have patience, if the nickel is oxidized, milky or cloudy, it will take time. You may have to repeat the process many times. This M586 no dash, was very cloudy. One potential buyer thought it was a stainless gun. But, it did eventually polish out rather nicely.
So, labworm, here is one of my nickel Smiths. BTW, the specks are dust from a cloth. I did not see them until I took the pic.
