Yes, writ is a word. Look it up.

It's "Shakespeare's" ghost. Unless you are referring to some obscure Native American warrior's. ;)

And while "writ" is certainly a word, the correct choice in your example would have been "write."

Thanks for the correct spelling of the poet's name. I didn't
think it looked right, but didn't take the time to look it up.
Write would not rhyme.
 
Not ending a sentence with a preposition is a chore with which I won't bother.
As there is no sarcasm or irony font I will use the vernacular or lousy grammar to indicate tongue in cheek vs. condescension.
Does not always work as indicated in the recent bear spray thread.
