Been collecting minty Model 25-2's in the mahogany presentation cases over the years. Wanted a shooter and not really concerned that it wasn't in perfect condition. Could not believe it, but I found a pre-Model 25-2 in nice condition (only wear on it was holster wear on the bluing on both sides of the muzzle) with the original relieved target grips with the diamond on them. Serial # is S160xxx, and it cost me all of $700. Looks to have been made in 1956. I did better than I ever expected for my shooter!

Good price for a great revolver. Not a fan of “pre” terminology. What you have is a 45 ACP, Model of 1955. The first N frame revolver from S&W to come with a heavy barrel. The 44 Magnum was introduced 9 months later using the same frame. As a matter of fact, S&W set aside many Model 1955 frames anticipating sales of the 44 Magnum. It did not happen and those frames reverted back to the ACP revolver.
